Poll: Music, TV, or nothing while rowing?

Post by luckylindy » November 6th, 2010, 9:20 pm

Thought it would be interesting to start a poll to see how others pass the time while rowing. Personally, I'm a 'watch the erg display' guy, but I also just started rowing a couple weeks ago.

Hard to vote on that one, used to put some motivational music on the MP3 player but these days I just use RowPro and watch the screen. I find it better now to focus on the stroke and be able to hear the flywheel.

Could you add podcasts to your choices? That's how I spend the time for most workouts (except intervals, which really need ac/dc and greenday to make happen!)

Music most of the time during aerobic workouts. Nothing for hard short intervals. Movies or TV for those marathon attempts. During the baseball playoffs, I would row moderately during the play, then harder during the commercials - that is hard in the early innings when the outs are quick, but those later, longer innings let me hang on. Pitching changes are killer
Mark Underwood. Rower first, cyclist too.

Wow, that's actually a really good idea for a workout. I may need to hook up the TV in the basement and give that a try (not a baseball fan, but may try it with football).

You're missing one option:

4. Music inflicted on you by the gym management

Whilst I voted for no music as my preference, when I am training with my PT, and he plays Gabrielle Cilmi "On a mission" it does brilliant things to my motivation levels  Well worth a listen.

On a mission

It’s time for me to make a move
And I know what i gotta do
Coz I got everything to prove
I got a plan I’m sticking to

The word is that I’m over doubt
But I don’t let it get me down
I ain’t nobody’s push around
If they could only see me now

There’s only one thing on my mind
And I'm running out of time
I'm coming through so get out of the way

I am a woman on a mission, woah
Nothing can stop me, I’m stronger than ever
I wanna see this through
I am a woman on a mission, woah
Whatever it takes I will do what I gotta do

I'm gonna lay it on the line
I won't give up without a fight
Coz I can see the finish line
Won't stop till I make you mine
To read the writing on the wall
I'm ready here and standing tall
So people think they know it all
So I guess I'll have to show them all

There’s only one thing on my mind
And I'm running out of time
I'm coming through so get out of the way

I am a woman on a mission, woah
Nothing can stop me, I’m stronger than ever
I wanna see this through
I am a woman on a mission, woah
Whatever it takes I will do what I gotta do

I am a woman on a mission, woah
Nothing can stop me, I’m stronger than ever
I wanna see this through
I am a woman on a mission, woah
Whatever it takes I will do what I gotta do

I never give up, I never give up, I never give up
I'm on a mission
I never give up, I never give up
I'm gonna see this through
I never give up, I never give up, I never give up
I'm on a mission
Whatever it takes I will do what I gotta do

Not exactly my type of music, but the video was rather interesting (if you like lingerie-clad women parading through space at least)

ipod generally, while also watching the PM display and looking at the rowpro graph if rowing alone. Otherwise watch the competition and listening to music

Watching competition on RowPro? If I wasn't so cheap (particularly since I'd need to buy another computer), I'd get that in a heartbeat. Looks like a lot of fun.
