this was an amazing finish to a race (not rowing)

How close can a race be.

in the Men's 50 KM Cross Country race in the 2010 winter Olympics the top 5 competitors were within 1.6 seconds.

Norway NORTHUG Petter Finish 1 2:05:35.5 0.0
Germany TEICHMANN Axel Finish 2 2:05:35.8 +0.3
Sweden OLSSON Johan Finish 3 2:05:36.5 +1.0
Germany ANGERER Tobias Finish 4 2:05:37.0 +1.5
Canada KERSHAW Devon Finish 5 2:05:37.1 +1.6

This was not a photo finish because at the speed they were going each .1 of a second is about 70 cm (2' 4") but I still think this is an absolutely amazing finish

Personally I think it shows they were loafing through most of the race, and only kicked in the last 1/2 of a lap.

I saw the whole race. I thought it was really good. Olsson out in front the entire 2nd half. They were not loafing. The big group just slowly dwindled till only a few at the end could hang on. The fact that it was close indicates it was a very tactical race not that they were loafing.

I watched from 5k to 45k of it, excellent race and I'm surprised the pack at the front was as large as it was for so long. If memory serves me right, the top 30 were at most 20s behind even after 35km.

Best part of the race was when Johnsrud Sundby pulled about 10s ahead of the pack for a while. Hearing NBC butcher his name was just added to the greatness of the moment. Truly a race of endurance!
