Why I Missed the Solstice Row

Post by ckaiserca » June 23rd, 2009, 10:59 pm

I have missed out on my first major challenge this season (and the first challenge that I have not met since starting with my Model D a little over two years ago). I had everything set to row the Solstice Row in Louisville, KY with the help of the Louisville Rowing Club. However my trip to Louisville got cancelled and we made arrangements to visit New York City instead.

Our hotel said that I would have no trouble rowing at a place called Equinox on Columbus Circle, and I double checked this with the hotel upon arrival and also went in person to the club on the Friday prior to Sunday to make sure everything was good. Assured that it was I went back to the hotel thinking I would be erging on the day of the solstice.

Long story short, when I arrived at Equinox on Sunday morning, I was told that they did not do day passes, and that I did not qualify for a guest pass.

I was not impressed. The concierge at the Paramount Hotel was useless, as was trying to speak to the manager of the Equinox.

Oh well. . .

Bummer.

I missed it too. I was too busy riding my bike from London to Brighton (85Km) with 27000 other cyclists then Brighton to Basingstoke (115Km) with some mates from the gym. Couldn't fit a 21K row in.
