Very high. While watching the video (link below) of his row, I counted 40 strokes during 1min in the body of the 2K. Some obstructions make it tough to count every stroke in the whole piece, but he was stroking a lot higher at the beginning & the end.
Think someone on the UK forum (Rocket Roy ?) counted all the strokes in Henrik's WIRC '08 row (6:02) & calculated 41spm avg for 2K.

UK Forum thread on this topic: http://www.concept2.co.uk/forum/viewto ... a&start=41
Here is the link to the video: http://www.quistmedia.dk/roklub/dm09/dm09.html

Cheers. Patrick.

I'm amazed how he looked at the finish. He didn't even look tired. He started celebrating as soon as he point the handle down.
My finishes are not too pretty, gasping for air, looking for something to hold on to.
I think that if he had some close competition he could push himself to go even faster.

It would be interesting to pit Olaf Tufte against Henrik Stephansen in a singlesculler and see who wins! If you use the weight adjustment calculator for both of them, the lightweight would seem to have the advantage!

Olaf Tufte would win. He is a better sculler. Ergs don't float.
It will take Henrik a few more years to develop.
Also did you add the 30 lbs for the boat weight in to your calculation?
Finally the weight adjustment works better for 5K then 2K--the formula assumes the race is strictly aerobic which a 2K is not.
