Best way to begin 2K

Post by kpavlidis » January 9th, 2009, 6:08 pm

What is the best way to begin a 2K? Do you suggest starting with full strokes or not? I'm not thinking about pacing so much as the best way to get the flywheel going. Thanks!

Amongst the top speedsters I've seen both methods used. While it seems slightly more common to see a few half or three-quarter strokes to start out, last February Henrik Stephansen of Denmark set a new lightweight world record of 6:02.2 using full strokes from the start. The first 10 stokes or so were just at a faster spm.

i do full pull form start and can usually get to speed by pull 3. My coach said best thing to do is "racing start" 1/2, 1/2, 3/4, 3/4 full.

Best suggestion try both and see what works for you. Idea being to get up to speed as fast as possible.
