I'm thinking about doing Crash B-s on Feb. 22nd and then another race at the beginning of march. Do you think I have enough time to recover for my second race on march 2nd? I would think even 7 days in between tests would be enough time, so this should be plenty of time right?

If you can manage to not recover fully in 9 days you need to dig VERY deep on the first 2K. Hats off for your mental strength then.

You're right- shouldn't be too bad. I've done 3-4 2ks during weekends in the spring, but I don't test all that much during the winter, however it shouldn't be any different.

In 1995, the last year that they did the 2.5k for the CRASH-Bs, they were still using heats and everyone had to do two 2.5ks over the weekend. I think that some had to do even more. For masters' racing on the water, many people end up doing as many as 6-8 races, counting all the heats involved. So, yes - you can recover, but probably not to top form.

A couple of years ago, I raced the weekend before Crash-B, then Crash-B. The second race was better for the experience of the previous week. I was in my late 50s at the time and recovery was no problem, although I may not have approached the race with all the gusto of a youth.

I've heard that crash b-s isn't a good place to PR because it gets to be a sweatbox- very hot and humid from all the races. anyone experience this or was it a friends exaggeration?

I didn't find it hot or humid. In fact if you're sitting on the stands waiting for your event, you'll need a sweat shirt and pants to stay warm. I think it's a good place to PR just because of the intensity of the event. And your family and friends watching and knowing if you didn't give it your all!

last march I did 3 race weekends in a row - all on Saturday's - actually improved each time by 3-4 seconds so yes it can be done.

only other modification I did was taper down my training a bit - basically did 10k row on mondays, intervals 8X500 on tuesday, 5k steady state on Wed and Thursday, Friday off.

that being said what works for me (or anyone for that matter) may not work for you. Everyone is different. My suggestion would be to try it now and see what happens. Do a 2k now and another in 9 days and go from here.
