another WR beaten - the 1k

Post by Bob S. » January 3rd, 2015, 11:58 pm

The details are in the "Key workouts to predict 500m / 1k / 2k / 5k TT times" thread in the training forum.

With a goal of 4:30, I manage to come up with a badly managed, fly and die result of 4:26.0. Not pretty, but I'll take whatever I can get. There is a WR in the records for this event in my category, but I was some 20+ seconds under it. However, that is not much of a bragging point. The WR holder is listed as 95 when he did it. I doubt that I could come anywhere near that 5 years from now. It is too bad that the half-decade is used only for the 2k. To me it would make sense to have the half-decade for the other ranked events as well, not for competitions, but for records.

Well done Bob. I like hearing that you're not only still at it, but excelling. Keep it up!

Thanks, Rick. I have signed up for the C-Bs this time, although I am not at all sure that I will be able to go. March 1st does sound a bit better than the usual mid-February icebox that is Boston. Anyway, if we both make it, I look forward to seeing you again.

I have half the ranked events completed now and they would all be WRs if I had done them on a grounded model. So far I have not had access to one, so it is a little frustrating. My one shot before the C-Bs will be at the Beach Sprints in Long Beach, which I have also signed up for and plan to attend. That is a 2k, of course, but while I am there, I hope to get a chance to repeat the 500m and 1k on one of their model D's. There are still a lot of unknowns. Can I get in enough practice on the D to get used to it again? Will I be in decent health 3 weeks from now? Will I gain much on going down to sea level? Will I be slower on the D, since I can't rate up as high as on my dynamic?

I used WR loosely in that last paragraph. It really applies to only 2 of them. The other 3 would be by default because there are no previous listings for them.

I hope that you make it to CRASH-Bs. It will be good to meet up again. I know that it's hard for you, but here's hoping.

I'd briefly thought of trying to go to Long Beach too, both for a brief trip away from the cold and a chance to see our erging friends like the Van Bloms and Mary Perrot and Helen Frykman in their own element. But alas, I'm not erging at a satisfying enough speed at the moment to justify the trip. Maybe next year.

Great job on the 6K too!
