I'm going! Anyone else?

And tell me, does it make any sense to have the Ontario Ergometer Championships a month AFTER the Canadian Championships?

Any members of the Eh! Team want to join in on a Men's Four?

and yes, I am well aware that my 2K time SUCKS!

I'm planning to compete there. As part of my campaign to persuade C2 to sponsor a U.S. championship, I hope to race in every other national championship.

I'm planning on going to the Monster Erg in Victoria, which is the same day and apparently somehow tied to the national championships with several other races(?). The way I understand it if I'm racing as a 40something lwt. in Victoria, I'm also racing against any other 40something lwt. in Toronto, Regina, Halifax and Montreal for the nat'l champ. (probably be like 3 of us  ). Anyway, I went to CIRC two years ago and thought it was fairly well run on the whole, I think they have a new (and improved?) venue this year.

Hi, Kirby. I didn't see anything on the CIRC website about coordinating scores from the various sites. The CIRC site lists the Toronto winners as medalists.

Hey Jamie. I don't see anything specific on the CIRC website either. They do mention the various erg competitions going on that same day. However, over at the Monster Erg (Victoria) site, one can find reference made to national champions in the results pages and apparently the nat'l champ. gets a t-shirt that says so. We'll have to compare notes after we get back from our competitions.

Thanks for the link. The process is confusing. For Masters Men A, Lightweight, Ishikawa went 6:36 (or 6:39). That was the fastest lightweight score that I saw in Canada. But the Monster erg site didn't list him as national champion.

Hi Jamie

If I remember correctly, in the past he or she who had the fastest score in their category between the Toronto and Victoria races was identified on the results list as being the national champion. Now that there are 5 Canadian regattas on the same day that practice seems to have stopped. I suspect it would be an onerous task for someone to sift through the results of all 5 regattas and identify a champion for each category. I believe there was a note on the Rowing Canada site last year that such a list would be posted there, but instead there were links to the results of each of the 5 regattas.

As for t-shirts that identify a nat champ, I didn't know they handed them out in Victoria. I've competed at CIRC most years since 2000 and have not seen them given out there.

Are you planning to come up to Toronto to race?

I'll be going to the Monster Erg in Victoria.
I don't know what goes on in Toronto but our results last year DID mention (with a little NC beside your name) if you were national champ. The only t-shirts given out were to winners and anyone within 3% (I think) of the winners time. This is indicated with a TE (Tough Enough) beside your name.

Jamie, I think the reason that Ishikawa wasn't nat'l champ was that Jon Beare entered himself in the Senior A lightweight even though he is 30-39. Hedid a 6:17.0

Michelle, I guess they weren't telling the truth about the t-shirts then, because it says here the nat'l champs get them, even says the manufacturers name, Canuck.

Also, the online entry form is a very confusing and hard to access xls document.

Jon Beare also helped qualify Canada's LWT men's 4- for the Olympics by coming in 4th at Worlds. He may be over 30, but he's not ready for Masters rowing yet!

It should be fun. My wife (Laurie) and I are flying up for the weekend. We'd appreciate any recommendations for a hotel. Laurie likes Fairmont and Intercontinental. Thoughts?

Thank you very much.

Best,

Hey Michelle. How'd you do at the Monster Erg? I came up from Edmonton and raced on Sunday. Victoria's a pretty cool place.
