I have competed many times in the 2000 and have placed highly. My question as we all know the various training modes for that distance. Are there any special workouts besides 100 -125, etc flys to prep you for this event ? Thanks and Happy Holidays from Atlanta, Ga !

500 and 1000 can be quite different skills really. Best to prepare for the 1k IMO with hard intervals on top of the usual metres for fitness (which is essential for the 1km), the 1k is just one hard slog with even pacing. Need to teach the body to stick to a chosen pace and 2-400m/1'r x5 is good. Also do 750m at race pace. For the 500m - 200m/1' or 30"r is good and power strokes - can live with a bit of fly and die on the short one. Weights are more important for the 500 too - the usual power stuff.

So we get no ID. Being from the ATL area, I'm pretty aware of the highly placed 2Kers. The fact is there are very, very few really good ergers in the area. I'd be interested in knowing who you are. Jim G

Looks like another one and done poster. Ask a question and disappear. Why bother?

For 1K: http://indoorsportservices.co.uk/forum/ ... 94#p602194
Glynn got SIRC 1K bronze two years in a row (and SIRC 500m gold this year).

I really like the look of your training schedule for these rows. My race is 8 weeks away but it includes a 500 and a 4 minute event as opposed to the 1k. The extra two weeks should allow me to continue the pattern of descending times to suit the 4 minutes. I have done a 1k in 3:02 and 1270 metres for the 4 mins. Hopefully this will put me in good stead to go a little better (50 - 54yr). Any other tips would be appreciated.
Regards
Terry
