I know that most of you are probably familar with the Cross Team Challenge but in case you are not or you have forgotton...

Each month a different distance is selected and people enter their best times for that distance for that month at the website. People are grouped by team into boats of 5 (3 heavyweights, 1 lightweight, 1 woman). So far for November over 300 people have done a 2k and there are more than 50 complete boats. Of course, that leaves more than 50 people in boats that are not yet floating.

Of interest to me are the Independent boats, i.e. boats for people without a team affiliation. In September (4k) and October (1 mile) the Independents were only able to float 2 boats, each time we were short a woman for the third boat. This month the Independents have two complete boats and we again only need a woman to fill the third boat. With an additional lightweight and another woman we could float a fourth boat.

If you have done a 2k this month, please consider entering it at the CTC website.

For December the CTC distance is 5000 meters.

This month the Independents again have two boats floating. With just two more lightweights, we could have two more boats floating. All 5k times are welcome.

One more woman is needed to fill the 3rd independent "boat" (on the erg) by the end of the month!

Any 10x 250m with 1:00 rests will do it.

Come on and have fun! :)

The March CTC is the maximum distance covered in seven minutes.

Set your monitors for seven minutes. Row hard. Record the distance covered on http://c2ctc.com.

If you're doing a longer timed piece (30minutes) set the splits for seven minutes and use the first split.

ENJOY!

I set up a 7 minute piece on RowPro on March 10 at 17:20 GTM (9:20 am PST). Everyone is welcome.

Actually, the lightweight can be of either sex. From the Cross Team Challenge FAQs:

1. How are the 'boats' decided?
Each boat seats 5 rowers. The seats can only be occupied by certain categories of rower, as follows:

Seats 1, 2 and 3 are OPEN. Anyone may occupy these seats.
Seat 4 is for LIGHTWEIGHTS. Any lightweight, male or female, may occupy this seat.
Seat 5 is for FEMALES. Any female, lightweight or heavyweight, may occupy this seat.

Where did you find that? C2 doesn't list it in their news, just a March 15 to April 15 total distance thing. There was an April FM/HM item mentioned some time ago, but that seems to have gone off the radar screen.

Edit — I finally figured it out and checked the U.K. forum for confirmation. I see that it is that CTC thing that they run each month. I have had the impression that that there is not all that much interest in those events in the Western Hemisphere, especially since there isn't an active club scene here — not like in the U.K.

2nd Edit — I should have read the title of the thread!
