Men 40+ Hwt WR?

Men 40+ has been a hot topic lately. This is my contribution. The official statistics still show that the WR holder is gold medalist Pertti Karppinen with his time 5.52. This is unfortunately an error
He has rowed the time but long ago in a younger category. There has been attempts trying to correct this error without success. I am sure that the local distributor and Karppinen himself would confirm this. I wonder who the WR holder might be then

Very strange, another example of the amaturism that goes around at erging statistics.

Rubbish!!!!
Dwayne will never hold the WR as it has to be done at a C2 sanctioned event.

Concept 2 states 40-49Hwt WR belongs to Pertti Karpinnen with a 5:52.0 rowed in the year 1996.
I have just over 6 seconds to find and 7 years to do it.

How many trainingyears do you have chad? and what is your (other) sporting background (if you do have)

Looking at Crash-B results on C2 UK's website since they went to the 2000m format in 1996 I do not see Kappinen's row. The fastest rows on the world stage (Crash-B's or BIRC) are 1996 Willem Pijper 5:58.4 and 1999 Jens Doberschultz also 5:58.4 (both Crash-B rows)
Concept2 should probably check into this WR and revalidate (or dismiss), I agree. I can not find any evidence of this row.

I have been rowing on the Erg for just over 18 months, I cant remember exactly.
My first 2000m time was 6.12.9 I have had four 2000m test to gauge my training, my fastest time for 2000m to date is 5.58.1. These tests were to reset my training paces, none of these have been with a taper or any speed work sessions before hand. I am yet to race in public.
Coach has a 2000m test set in the middle of July to allow him to work out the pacings for my speed sessions that I will start in my build up to BIRC.
I hope to be 3-4 seconds above the current 40-49Hwt WR at BIRC 2006.
My sporting background is basketball, boxing and I moved into the bushido.

although the clock is ticking (age) this does sound very promissing. You certainly do have a change at cracking that 5.52

"My first 2000m time was 6.12.9"
Tomorrow, I move to the 50's. I will be glad to be out of this class!!
(Tonight, I will have a beer or two and not even attempt to break the WR!)
Good luck in your training and "real" 2K.
Cheers,
Paul Flack

Congrats Paul,
I feel new challenges like you do, as I turn 60 on the same day as you 50. Have you thought of ranking in the new category still this season... 10 days left. I will have more than a beer or two

I've also got a birthday in May, making a complete change of age group but I was told that I couldn't post times in 2 age groups in the same ranking year, therefore I have to wait for 3 weeks (without posting times) until I start posting times from my birth date.
I presume this would relate to the other end of the year's ranking too.
Maybe I stand to be corrected?

You can go ahead and post times.
When you rank another time later, it automatically removes the first time from the rankings.
This is regardless of age, and whether the 2nd time is faster or slower than the first one.
