World Records

Post by cannondalerugby5 » August 3rd, 2023, 12:41 pm

Hi
Happened to look at the world records section on the C2 website to find that the age category is now every 5 years.
Last time I looked it was every 10 years or am I losing the plot?
When did it change?
Have to say I have not had any interest for a couple of years as I thought I was nearly 7 years out of age cat!
No motivation.
5 year intervals makes much more sense, not so long to wait😀
Cheers to all
Steve

I asked a question of C2 about the British Records and have been told they are going through a process of trawling through verified scores in the online logs to establish initial record holders for each event at the new 5 (mid) age groups. No timescales given, but if you think you may have erg'd a record you can contact ranking@concept2.com and they'll check it for you. I haven't - my 1200m 4 min was well beaten by someone in 2012 apparently! I assume they are doing the same for World and the other national records, but I didn't ask that question.

Interesting. They are also doing similar for British Records as I've been 'credited' for a couple in the 55-59 age category which I never knew I had :D

I guess other country national records will be revised

65-69 Mhwt seems a little 'light', only 4' and 2k. May think about a comeback just to get a few populated

On and off Nick, I keep thinking about having a crack at the 65-69 2k BR, mainly as I've never held a 2k record  and just turned 65. But everytime I seem to get back into the habit of training, something comes along to 'distract/disrupt' the habit and at our age it doesn't take many missed sessions for fitness to fall away. Just haven't really hit any numbers in training to think 'yeah, now we're starting to get somewhere', yet.

Happy to do something, on the bike or erg, as want the best quality of life I can give myself when I move into 'old age' (whatever that is  ) but whether I'll put myself through the mill again to threaten any records, only time will tell.

Popped on the forum today only as I've had an email that BRIC is back at the NEC and got to wondering who was still about. Might be glad I did, as seeing Concept have opened up the BR's over all distances, for 65-69s, got me thinking that I may try to populate a few of them as only 4' and 2k have anything against them.

Also noticed I've been 'credited' with a couple in the 55-59s, they've 'missed' at least a couple of others (5k and 6k) but I'll have a full check of my logs and drop Concept a line to see what qualifies.

Good to see you're still about and Stevie B. Mpx I know still keeps the Sub 7 banner flying over on our thread. You should have a look at some of those unpopulated 65-69 BRs as well Nick. Between Stevie B doing the sprinty stuff, I'll have a go at some middle distance and you could go for the longer stuff, between us we should be able to set some sort of targets for the 'youngsters'

Great to see you pop in Richard and please do go for BRIC and those BRs - always great to see. The lack of 65-9 records is just a temp thing as C2 will populate from verified scores in the online logs, but I'm sure they will still be well within your sights if you can get back on the horse regularly enough.

Mike, I've just trawled through my ranking log and sent a potential update through to C2 as they have missed a few of mine (potentially) and have an incorrect time for the 10k. I would suggest anyone else just check, even if you're already credited as a little surprised they published this incomplete with a 'lessor' time.
FWIW, all are ranked workouts in my logbook
4' - 13/9/2015 - 57yo - 1262
5k - 21/5/2017 - 59yo - 17:04.7 (particularly pleased with that memorable row as I thought I'd broken the 60-64 WR doing a training piece :D )
6k - 17/10/2015 - 57yo - 20:38.2 (Done in a 6k race in a barracks in Aldershot)
10k - 27/10/2016 - 58yo - 34:58.4 (Another memorable row as I wanted to get under 35 minutes for the CTC)

Wish I could get anywhere near any of those now

Wow! Some very impressive scores there Rich! Funily enough I have been credited with a couple of 65+ records, which are what I did....but of course are relatively weak in the overall scheme of things so will no doubt be readily beaten in short order. Surprising in a way that no-one has logged a verified better score in the last decade, so perhaps the checks aren't all that exhaustive. Either way I'm properly chuffed to have a couple of certificates: 354m for 1 min and 3:15.8 for 1k - even if only for a week or two! :D

Still not sure if it motivates me or if it just dilutes the whole thing.

Thanks Mike that's kind of you to say and much appreciated. :D

The move to 5 year age groups has been something I've been asking for on behalf of my over Sixties team (The Diamonds (Over Sixties Erging Group) for some time so delighted to see it's happened now. :P

It's something that has motivated and encouraged many of us in the ''Senior'' categories (except Nick Rockliff it would appear... ).

There's no way it ''dilutes'' things in any way as we can't possibly go as fast towards the middle and end of a decade as we did at the start so it's only right and fair to recognise this and acknowledge our achievements in the battle against ''Old Father Time''.

I was a little disillusioned due to not being able to get near any of my records in the 60-64 Lwt Category but am now full of enthusiasm and enjoying my rowing again thanks to now being in a far more competitive enviroment. B)

Well done C2 for listening to the community. :D

Cheers Mike, unfortunately I may have a battle on my hands to get them recognised as it appears C2 are only retrospectively using verified times and none of these times were verified at the time. FWIW they did'nt need to be then as none of them were a 50-59 British records, so I never bothered, just ranked them for a score on the table.

Not sure whether I can be bothered to argue the case, I'd be arguing for the people 'chasing' the said record and also those credited with a record, that's not actually the fastest (or longest), rather than myself as I have racked up a few over the years :D

Anyway, mulling it over for a few days
