New 60-69 Lwt 100k World Record

Hi Folks,
I don't post on here very often these days but try to read as much of it as I can and stay in touch with some of my old rowing friends....so putting this here to let you know I broke the World record for 100k in the 60-69 Lightweight Category today..as it's my 63rd Birthday so wanted to do ''63 miles (well...if you include the warm up!) on my 63rd.
I did 7 hours 14 minutes and 42.7 seconds (2:10.4 pace) which beats the old one by 22.3 seconds.
The coaching I've received from Eddie Fletcher was the key as his scientific training got me into shape...and my good lady wife Carol Woodward (who is well known as a world champion and record holder in her own right..) who fed me, mopped my brow and held the drink bottle with tube so that I could take on Carbs and Electrolytes.
Life in the ol' dog yet.....happy rowing folks

Congratulations! First WR? The GB record was obviously far too easy for you!! That's a hugely impressive time.

Thank you for the kind words winniewinser, MPx, Dangerscouse and Dino much appreciated chaps
Mike....Yes, I've moved on a bit since the days of 10k being the furthest I'd go and refusing to do the traditional end of year HM as it was ''too far''....little did I know that I'd end up thinking they are ''too short''
Dino.....It was my first World Record as an Individual as I already had 5 as part of teams (one of which was a Tandem 100k with my wife) and yes the WR at 2:10.5 pace was a lot faster than the BR of 2:17.6 pace. This now makes 10 British Records so delighted to be in double figures.

Cheers Rod
Yes I am back on the old torture machine - I had a cardiac arrest 6 months ago but have made a good recovery after having a defibrillator implant and I am starting to build up a bit of fitness again so all is good

Thank you
Jill, that's very kind of you to say, it was certainly a lot of hard work doing the training for it but nothing prepared me for the last 25k...I felt like I was on another planet for that bit so maybe the new trick is to expect the unexpected!
Best wishes and happy rowing to you too...we're all in this together....there's no escape so might as well enjoy it
