New world record ?
What kind of world reord would you like to see ad on C2 website ? 3k, 4k ? I'd like to see some rate cap wr (30mn r20...)

2500m. See who can hit the changeup.
There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data

The more records the less they mean. To me its all about the open men records, with on top the 2k. Everything else is less.Esteban Chaubron wrote: ↑May 22nd, 2020, 10:23 amWhat kind of world reord would you like to see ad on C2 website ? 3k, 4k ? I'd like to see some rate cap wr (30mn r20...)

Re: New world record ?
Now that there is Ergdata to count your strokes and provide a verified result the 30R20 could easily be added to the rankings. The only argument would be the + stroke count limit. You would have to make it like 605 strokes maximum.

Re: New world record ?
Would you say the same thing for 100m and 5000m for track & field ? Obviously there's an enormous focus on 2k on the indoor rowing scene, but i don't see where is the problem to add some new records to beat. Just an other way to compare to champions and to appreciate indoor rowing.hjs wrote: ↑May 22nd, 2020, 12:56 pmThe more records the less they mean. Would rate the 100m the highest, but in olympic rowing there is only one distance. Its 2k, 2k, 2k and 2k.Esteban Chaubron wrote: ↑May 22nd, 2020, 3:56 pmWould you say the same thing for 100m and 5000m for track & field ? In general the reason I don,t like extra records and or changes it the gravity of a record. If the event does not change you can compare with others over other timeframes.

Re: New world record ?
I think I agree with Henry - having too many records cheapens each one (compare the numerous obscure indoor WRs for sprinting for example, versus the 100m, 200m and 400m that are the standards in outdoor).
Being human of course, some records are still alive for historical reasons (the mile) but nobody runs the 100 yards these days.
If there were going to be new officially-sanctioned records, I think Carl's idea of 30r20 makes some sense as top rowers seem to actually compare that amongst themselves, rather than the, say 30r19. I think it would have to not exceed 600 strokes. Perhaps a minimum no of strokes too, but that might start to look a bit contrived.
Perhaps some staging posts on the way to 100k should also be brought in. 50k isn't official currently, presumably because it's too close the marathon. But including some there might make sense.

Re: New world record ?
I am biased and probably vastly in the minority but I think 50k and 12 hours should be rankable distances.
I know what you mean Max about it being too close to a FM, but I think there's more similarity between the 5k and 6k as the additional 7,805m from a FM are a lot harder to try and pace correctly.
12 hours is also a good staging post as the gap is too big between 100km and 24 hours. I'm not sure that this would cheapen anything as it's as esoteric as any other ultra distance session and will only be attempted by fairly small amount of people, and as it's all just C2 certificates it's not got any exposure outside those who actively go searching for it.
As for a 30r20 I think that is a great idea, or imo I think it could be 30r20 or under, as there's no benefit, or competitive advantage, that I can think of for doing it at r18 or r19.

Re: New world record ?
As lot of british and american universities are using some distances to test their rowers that are not recorded as official workouts by C2, i’ll found it interesting to see some 3k 4k 8k... Some new things to test the capability of the humans, as the rowing machine is one of the best at it. The physical side of rowing is really interesting for me, as its the only one we can measure. But obviously 2k is the most important one.

16 years old 5'10 130 lb - max watts 640, 4 minutes - 1106 meters, 2k - 7:33.2, is this above average for weight?

This should give you some idea where you fall in the rankings: https://log.concept2.com/rankingsColdingOsprey wrote: ↑September 25th, 2024, 3:48 pm16 years old 5'10 130 lb - max watts 640, 4 minutes - 1106 meters, 2k - 7:33.2, is this above average for weight?
Assuming you're a guy, you'll get the following:
2024 2000m RowErg Rankings
Weight: L | Gender: M | Ages: 13-18 | Country: All | All Results | Adaptive: No
50th percentile is 7:18.4
25th percentile is 7:45.6
So you fall somewhere between the two.
Re: New world record ?
...or if you mess up 1.5K. Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games sweeps rowing will be 1,500 meters at Long Beach Marine Stadium.
Must really mess with race pacing, training and seat selection. Optimizing for a 6 min 2K is not the same as for a 4 min 1500.
Re: New world record ?
That's going to be interesting to see what changes that brings in terms of the type of rowers we see for the next Olympic cycle, or what the World Cup events such as Lucerne or Poznan will do that year. or maybe even the previous year in terms of how countries select their rowers.
