Marathon Row at The CrossFit Games

Not sure if you all have seen/heard that in this year's CrossFit Games that start tomorrow they are having a marathon row as one of the workouts - last workout of the day for tomorrow (Wednesday the 1st). CF always incorporates rowing in the big events (regionals/games) but was surprised to see a marathon row - anxious to see how the top athletes in CF handle it.

Interesting. They've did this previously: https://games.crossfit.com/article/rows-and-rows. Obviously different but there's some similarity. Khalipa's 6:21 2k which he immediately blended into a 1:18:02 half marathon is pretty impressive for a non-dedicated rower.

Ya think? Can we expect to see a new breed of speedurance athlete soon?

Khalipa has bad form too - as did many of the guys then and still now. For the Marathon this year it was their 4th workout of the day so they did pretty dang good and better than I expected.

I thought they did pretty darn good too. Especially after 3 events earlier in the day.

Margeaux Alvarez's time of 3:00:42, I thought was down right impressive. They all have my sincere respect for ending that day with a Marathon Row.

The whole thing was enough for me to do my 1st Marathon. 3:21:15.5 Nearly hit my goal of 3:20:00.

Maybe if I have breakfast next time, I can go sub 3:20:00.

Well done Scott. You do need to be properly prepared for a FM, so a good breakfast and diluted OJ / energy gels regularly throughout is essential.

Inspired me to step up to a full marathon ... my first, and as yet, only

Fueled with a normal pre-workout breakfast (oatmeal with 100g blueberries & 31g protein powder) ...
Water, Powerade, mini-pretzels and dill pickles by my side during the row

My goal was sub-4hrs ... next time, I'll aim higher ;)

I debated gloves, based on what I saw at the CFGames, but went without ... no problem

Maybe should've considered a seat pad and a couple stretch breaks, but ... so be it.

That's a solid time for your first FM. Well done. Did you train much for it?

Thank you.

Over the past 14 months, I've been gradually increasing distances/times ... I'd done 2 half-marathons in the two months previous, and I'd built up through August with the 'Dog Days' challenge.
