Wow. That's an unbelievable time for any age group. For 60-69 it's terrifyingly fast.

Yeah that's basically my 5k PB pace and I felt awful at the end of that. That's hugely impressive.

shows how fit skiers are.

Hahaha. It's incomprehensible doing that pace for a FM

“Don’t worry about times just learn to compete with yourself.” Funny how that old tea & sympathy goes round and comes round.

This is almost frightening.
It's too bad he does not go for the shorter distances also.
I am envious because they have such nice cold air up there in Finland,
probably all year round.

Yeah I suppose it's quite good...but then he is presumably a HWT.
(it's very impressive)

Small heavyweight, certainly no tree of a man.

Interesting that he goes at high resistance and 30spm, not what this forum teaches the young 'uns to do

. I thought that this combination was a sin only committed by bodybuilders... Never mind for a marathon. Maybe I should give it a try?
Also I noticed that his hands follow a kind of W curve, with a dip in front of and behind his knees. Wouldn't that be regarded as poor form by some experts?

He is no rower, but much more a superb aerobicly fit cross country skier. He needs that high to get more stroketime.
At the moment there is also an Amerikan guy, fitness rower, also uses this style, max drag, high rating. Guy pulled us records on the hour and HM. 30/40 cat. On shorter work this does not work, his 2k is very modest compared to long distances. Rowing is aimed mostly at 2k and otw. For that you need a strong stroke and a drag thats comparable to the drag on water. Guys who need high drag, simply drive to slow.
In this erging and otw are simply two different sports.

Any serious drug/doping tests at this challenge?
No? Then this WR is worth NOTHING.
Yes? Brilliant performance!

Not one erging record is tested. And its not a challenge bullshit, its a year round open time trial.
Dope tests can be cheated easily, so testing would still mean not much. On the other hand there is peoples word, yours may not mean much, but plenty of others simply never cheat.

I'm inclined to agree and as an aside it's also why I think the C2 PM code number system is brilliant. I'm in favour of lots of testing. Trouble is it's expensive. They do it in the UK Cycling Time Trial scene to a small degree, and amateurs have been caught. And in the cycling/Concept2 world remember Dan Staite? He set some astonishing times on the erg and IIRC only got caught by British Cycling in 2010. He may well've been quite talented but the problem with PEDs is you've no idea what performances they've done are valid and which are tainted. IMO absolutely pointless...what a massive waste of time. Turns out the performances were probably a little too astonishing. Indeed some gains from PEDs will stay with the user even if they stop because it will have allowed them to train to a higher level - and certain adaptions tend to stick around.
