Hi , I have just completed my first ever rowing stint at 2000m in a time of 7.34 I am 49 and weigh 12 stone is this a time that can be improved upon enough to be serious about entering competitions.

Take a look at http://therowingcompany.com/forum where the Brits hang out. There's a few competitions run in the UK and Europe.

If you could lose 3 pounds, you'd be a lightweight, which would help. To do respectably at big competitions in the 50-54 lightweight class, you'd want to go under 7 minutes. Not knowing how fit you are now, none of us could say if that's a realistic goal.
