For You Old Timers
Rooting around on Regatta Central and noticed an interesting registration at Pitssburgh, Dayton, and Indianapolis in the 60+ category. He's back at it again; really quite amazing. Figured I'd throw it out there for amusement. Will there be a CRASH B's or WIRC appearance?

He says he's going to do WIRC,still spouting his usual rubbish on his facebook page!Edward4492 wrote:Rooting around on Regatta Central and noticed an interesting registration at Pitssburgh, Dayton, and Indianapolis in the 60+ category. I don't engage him in conversation, he would just come out with the same nonsense he's been spouting for years.
It will be interesting to see if he actually finishes a race, I can't remember the last time he did!

Re: For You Old Timers
Is there still that bet with Rocket that involves someone eating an ergo for breakfast if the special one wins a hammer?
Rod, you've nothing to fear, you're going to be closer to the hammer even if you don't win it. The 60+ skinnys race should be exceptional this year.

Re: For You Old Timers
There as some fast guys around that's for sure although apparently Steve Roedde is not entering due to his ongoing thyroid problem making it impossible to know if he'll be able to row properly or not, some days he can some he can't. Tom Phillips, last years winner is not rowing at the moment so that's two big ones out but still plenty of others to potentially be well in front of me so I'll be watching the entries with interest!Citroen wrote:Is there still that bet with Rocket that involves someone eating an ergo for breakfast if the special one wins a hammer?

I doubt there will be hammers for the winners, they are a Crash-b thing and that event is not the world champs this year.
He who shall not be named is in the age group above me but expect we'll be on at the same time so will have to find out afterwards if he finishes....which I very much doubt!

The vast majority of 60+ LWts at top of rankings in '17 & '18 live in Europe. Competitiveness depends on how many are willing to cross the water. If they come, the Frenchman and the Italian would be the favorites. What's with Phillips not rowing? Steve R. is in pretty good shape. He would be under 7:00 if he comes down from Can. D. Sauers from Minn could squeeze out a sub-7 min. Could be a good event.

I don't know why Tom isn't rowing at the moment but the talent pool is still pretty deep. Dan Sauers should be well under 7 minutes judging by his other scores and he's training hard for it which I know because he and I are in regular email contact.Cyclingman1 wrote:The vast majority of 60+ LWts at top of rankings in '17 & '18 live in Europe. Gerard le Flohec from France is way ahead at the moment although I'm sure Emanuele Romoli has more in him yet but yes, it depends if they want to go over to the US to do it.
There's a Dutch guy with some fast times a few years back and of course there are probably people we haven't heard of yet that will want to have a go as it's the world championships.
Steve R is indeed in very good shape, he and I are in a Lightweights facebook group together so I'll ask him if he's changed his mind but Dan Sauers tells me he's said a firm 'no' to it.
I'm hoping to improve on the 6:59.0 I've done so far but I'm not sure how far whatever I can get it down to is going to get me given the exalted company I'm going to be in!

Re: For You Old Timers
Tom had a knee replacement; so I guess we have to give him a pass. The 60+ LWTS have a solid field. Like Jim said, the fastest of the fast are across the pond. That includes you Rod! I'm nowhere near competitive with these guys at the moment. Gonna be an interesting race. My internal drive has switched to OTW. The one I'm really scouring the events for is Mike Smith. He has the potential to destroy Roy Brook's 6:38 55-59LWT WR. He pulled 6:25 last year at age 54 just missing by a few 1/10's the 50-54Lwt WR held by Paul Seibach. As a side note, Mike is a beast in the boat. He regularly does three or four OTW races on the same day and I raced against him (in the sense that we were in the same heat and we were both in boats), he pulled 3:23 for a 1000m sprint. The guys a beast plan and simple.

After returning to the erg after a 15 year break this past August, I sort of wondered what happened to He Who Shall Not be Named. I believe that would have been two forums ago.

The one who cannot post on here was finally banned more than two years ago. He was banned for persistently misquoting, for offering death threats, for denegrating other's efforts and a number of other misdemeanors.VeloMark wrote:After returning to the erg after a 15 year break this past August, I sort of wondered what happened to He Who Shall Not be Named. He has been seen at some indoor rowing competitions but most of his recent efforts have resulted in handle down and abject failure.

I'm not yet 55. I'm not racing on ergos so being a fatty doesn't matter.Gammmmo wrote:Does that make you a fatty, Citroen?![]()

Me too. Would I be right in saying he before he was banned he was allowed to stay on the condition he only post in a single thread?Gammmmo wrote:I *think* I know who you're on about...

That's correct and he even managed to abuse that ruling. His presence simply caused too much work for the moderators, too many reported posts, too much crap cleaning.JerekKruger wrote:Me too. Right now the forum is a much more lively place than it's been for a few years, we've got folks coming back here and giving up being assimilated by the Faceborg.

Funny, I only got part way through the first entry on this thread and 'knew' who it was about
Yeah seems to be a bit of renaissance on here (myself included), if they could host a blog section it could get like the 'old' days
