5K WR, 70+, HWt - sorta
18:00.1, 278, 32, W/s: 8.7 on Model C, PM2. Of course, cannot be verified on PM2. Current WR, Frans van Mierlo, NED, 18:10.9.
Done after 50 miles in the hills yesterday. A little fatigued.
Will send some PM2 screen shots to Concept2 - probably won't help.
If I was smart enough would paste photos here, but won't let me.
The bottom line of this post is the road to a decent 2K time at end of Jan, 2018. Speed work started this past week. There is hope.

Really nice work Jim! Glad to see you working your way back; that's a damn solid 5k. C2 understandably has protocols for WR's, but I don't think anyone on these boards doubts your times. Well done!

Re: 5K WR, 70+, HWt - sorta
Thanks, Ed. If I was all that worried about it, I wouldn't have done it at the club on PM2. Actually, I only had vague intent anyway. After 1:48.5 for 1K, I just figured I would keep up the effort and see where it got me. Right now, my focus is 2K. If I stay healthy, I feel a really fast 2K coming on. No not 5:50, as other glorious rowers have predicted, but perhaps well under current WR. Famous last words.

Bravo Zulu, Jim! You've got my vote for WR. Figure out how to post those photos. You know, for the record.

There's something funky about the Forum and posting of pictures. No simple Browse and download. Who knows what sort of format and process must be done. And I'm definitely not an IT geek.

For digicam and cellphone pix, use a photo hosting/posting site. This one is uncomplicated: http://www.postimage.org

Remo, thanks for copying C2 standards for WRs.
My time for 5K is OK. Early Sun morning, the only person I knew around was wife, who took the pix.
I won't really care if C2 does not accept my pix. I'll break the record on a PM5 machine when I get around to it after the racing season.

Congrats again, maybe a pm5, gives you erg data on a foon or pc, everything verified right away, plus you seen every stroke recorded.
Re: 5K WR, 70+, HWt - sorta
You only need witnesses for a 2k WR, the verification code is fine for all others so you should be fine.Remo wrote:From the Concept 2 website regarding World Records:Any witnesses at the club?Season represents the Ranking Season, which runs from May 1–April 30 every year.

Super time - very well done. Sounds like you'll trim those extra 0.2 seconds if you go again....I wish you good luck

Re: 5K WR, 70+, HWt - sorta
Remember, do not have verification codes on PM2 machines. Also, witnesses are insufficient for 2K WR. Has to be at C2 venue. I plan on attending maybe up to four venues next yr, including WIRC. Last yr at this time I had similar plans. Got sick and got slower as winter moved on. Hated it. Will try to be on guard for similar slippage this yr.Rod wrote:You only need witnesses for a 2k WR, the verification code is fine for all others so you should be fine.

Thanks, guys, for recognizing tired old man rowing a somewhat brisk 5K, of course nothing compared to what you 40, 50 yr olds are doing. It is interesting how 17:59.9 looks way better than 18:00.1.
The good news is that Concept 2 ranking dept has accepted my screen shots and names of a couple of witnesses to give me the record for now. Should show up in a couple of days.

Re: 5K WR, 70+, HWt - sorta
Well done Jim! One has to wonder if C2 takes a look at the "body of work" produced and figures that into the credibility of the submission. You have a number of verified WR's as I re-call and at least one very solid (if sub-par by your high standards) 2k at a public event. An 18:00 5k while outstanding quite frankly is not surprising coming from you and is consistent with your "body of work". Stay healthy so you can slay the 2k dragon. Maybe Glen will be there and row next to you again for motivation!
