Can you wear a weightlifting belt when racing?

Just curious?

Is there any advantage to this?

When lifting weights with weight lifting belts you expand your trunk out to fill up the space and create the extra support so I don't see how that would be desirable at all!?In a race the need for oxygen is very great. That much around your trunk would seem to restrict that. I couldn't even think about wearing a compression type shirt TBH and the first instinct I feel is to want to strip clothes in order to let more air in! Plus you aren't needing that much force in the trunk rotation anyway. What's your reasoning Mike?

I was just curious, I am dealing with a lower back strain and was considering wearing a belt to keep up my training load... and if I was going to train that way I would want to race that way as well.

I just need to take a couple days off... :).

I'll just leave these links here:

Make of it what you want, but if Mahe really wears those, then it's possible to perform with a belt on.

Interesting! Of course that is different than an actual "Weight lifting belt" which is generally made of thick leather and a big buckle that wants to cut into your gut (which Mahe wouldn't have of course - gut that is).
