Is anyone going to the Devon Indoor Rowing comp 17 Sep?
Any forumites going to the above?...be good to meet up and put faces to online personas! I believe this comp is a 5K so will suit me better...hoping to get into the lower 18s but think it's too early for me to get that 17. Entries close this week I believe so don't dither. Cheers.

Unfortunately no, I did look at it but Devon is just a bit too far for me. Good luck, looks like there will be some tough competition, but I bet your time will be good.

There's an online option, Which means real time competition against other rowers.
Y'all should try it some time. Kind of cool.

I'll be there - but then its not that far as I now live in Devon
.
FWIW as well as the 5k there's also a chance to do a 500m sprint too.

Results from my heat 19-49 MLWT - although some LWTs were in other heats this heat had the fastest average times where there were LWTs I think. Sorry didn't get any others as got to the venue late, was then stressed about my race and then had to leave early! AmazingAmazon - sorry had to buzz off early but did notice you racing in lane 8 in the blue shoes !!
J Steventon 17:36.6
Clesse 17:40.2
Stuart Jackson 17:47.3
Tim Cox 17:52.3
Chris Kelly 17:56.1
Paul Gamlin 18:09.0 (me, SB by 3 seconds from ~2 weeks ago)
Duncan Southern-Naylor 18:39.6
Really enjoyed it - very good organisation and atmosphere. Weighed in at 71.7kg with shoes and race kit on, so clearly need to continue hitting the junk food.
Pretty much spot on what I hoped for and could expect time-wise....hopefully I can get that 17 soon and start joining the race.

Great time Paul, but wow what a tough heat. Those times are in the top 12 of LWT men this year. What is it about light weight men. Why are they all so fast

Hi Piers, and thanks. Why are they fast? Well...it's racing! A certain kind will always be attracted to that.Pie Man wrote:Great time Paul, but wow what a tough heat. Those times are in the top 12 of LWT men this year. What is it about light weight men. Why are they all so fast
It was a good experience actually going to an event. I knew/suspected beforehand that most in my heat would do 17s. I just did my own race. There may've been 3-4 more seconds there max but I need a block of training now in order to join the sub 18 brigade...but that'll be all part of the fun. What is encouraging is most are pulling long 17s so it's not like I have a minute to make up. Also, don't let the standard quoted put *you* off though...there were other MLWTs in other heats that were slower. It's all good.

Re: Is anyone going to the Devon Indoor Rowing comp 17 Sep?
Nice job Paul! As mentioned, tough heat. Can't ask for more than a PB. I find in erg racing the talent pull in the LWT's is short and sharp. Not a lot of fast guys.....but the fast guys are fast! In the US bike racing had a load of talent. our typical Masters 45+ field would be over (50) guys and fifteen of them were legit potential winners. Lots of ex- national team members, etc. I'm starting to look at OTW race results and it's the same thing. The top couple guys in each class are frighteningly fast. I think it's natural selection. The slow guys just give up, then there's illness and injury. The only ones left are the studs.
Anyway.....very nice result!

Pretty good and you are not very far off. Given your current performance curve looks promising. As long as you keep improving, nothing to fix.....Gammmmo wrote:Hi Piers, and thanks.
