1 minute test piece
1 minute test piece
What is a good strategy for a 1 minute test piece on erg. I am a lightweight male, with a sub 7 minute 2k. The coaches are not looking at proper technique in the 1 minute piece, so what would a good strategy be? What would a good stroke rate be? Should a shorten my stroke to get more power? Whats your strategy?

Why not do half a dozen and see for yourself?

In one minute you can get pretty tired. You do need to pace yourself. My advice would be about 10 splits above your one stroke lowest, probably 40 or 42 s/m. Cutting your stroke is okay; try to row without swing and emphasize exploding off the legs. This is hard so do not do it for the first time during the 1' piece. It also puts some strain on your back so I would suggest swing for 30 seconds at 38 then no swing 30 seconds at 42.
Then again my eight raced no swing for 1k at Canadian schoolboys... If it works for you, go for it.
My coach used to make us do the 1' tests immediately after 6Ks. We all hated it.
