Concept 2 Logbook rankings

Post by offDaCharts » February 25th, 2013, 2:15 pm

I found this site where concept 2 uses the online logbook and results from various races to rank erg scores filtered by country, age, weight and gender.

It seems to have a lot of input but definitely not all of the top erg scores (for example the crash b's open men's winner isn't ranked yet) so I was wonder how accurate do you think these rankings are? What proportion of top ergs scores do you think are missing?

Many of the top OTW competitors do not rank their results, even though some of them will have very high rankings. The erg was originally designed for OTW rowers to use to stay fit when they could not workout in boats. a lot of OTW rowers still consider them to be just off season exercise machines and are interesting only in OTW competition. There are may exceptions to this, especially amongst the college rowers. I see nothing wrong with either attitude, but some ardent ergers on the forums have complained about OTW rowers who don't rank their erg results. It is really a very oddball sport, limited to one manufacturers machines (and not all models at that). I can't picture a Crash-B type turnout for competitions on stationary bikes or weight rack machines. Another thing is that there, compared to the 2k, are only a very few public competitions of other erging events, especially in the US.

The rankings are a good indication of your performance as long as there is a large number of people in your category.

You have to remember that although it may not include the worlds best OTW rowers, these are few and far between compared to the number of couch potatoes who couldn't row a couple of hundred metres to save themselves.

Nothing wrong with them, but the topresults are not in, otw rowers don,t care or won,t show there results and plenty of races afe not ranked. Both the German and dutch championships for instanse are not ranked and both countries have plenty of fast ergers/ rowers.
