How do I get my "data" from the race.
How do I get my "data" from the race.
I'm competing in the Atlanta ERG Sprints next Saturday and having never done one of these events before I have a question. How do I get an official file of my race?
I'd love to have the file so I could "compete" against myself, etc. Can I bring mt LogCard with me to put in the ERG or do I just leave with a time on a sheet of paper?

Re: How do I get my "data" from the race.
There used to be a problem with the PM4s that they were sensitive to static. One time when someone inserted a logcard for a race I was running they crashed the whole venue racing set-up. That took twenty minutes to recover with a reboot of the laptop, a re-confgure of the ergs, a renumber of the ergs before I could download the racing files again.
Don't do it, you won't be popular when you crash a race set-up by inserting a logcard.
The venue racing software catches all the data and records it in a series of CSV (comma seperated variable) files. Ask the organiser to put that data out on a website after the race.

That makes sense, thanks for the info. Maybe I'll email the race organizer and ask them the question.Citroen wrote:There used to be a problem with the PM4s that they were sensitive to static. The only way I've been sure to get my race data in a US race is to do it while I'm still on the erg after the race; and I have had to act fast, because the next race participants need to get on. At the conclusion of the race, press "Change Units," and your splits should be displayed. In a large race, the people running the race probably don't have time to retrieve everybody's splits. Bring something with which to write, and hope you are coherent enough to remember to do it... or have someone prepared to remind you. At CRASH Bs I've even borrowed a pen and wrote them on my hand.

The data from BIRC that I have seen is much more detailed, like rate and pace for every stroke. Is this kind of data available from any other venue?Joanvb wrote:The only way I've been sure to get my race data in a US race is to do it while I'm still on the erg after the race; and I have had to act fast, because the next race participants need to get on. Also, how can we get race results recorded on the rankings page with the "race" designation? Does C2 (Dena?) do this for all satellite events? And, if so, when can we expect it to show up. The LBRA January Virtual Competition team was short 2,000m because my race date wasn't entered. It was not on my log card of course, since logcards cannot be used in races, and I hesitated to enter it manually for fear of messing things up.

Here's my stuff from Basingstoke in 2010 http://rowing.dyn-o-saur.com/BSTK2010/s ... e_2010.zip that's what you get from the Venue Racing software if the checkbox to request it is checked.Bob S. wrote:The data from BIRC that I have seen is much more detailed, like rate and pace for every stroke. How do you translate it into the graphs that are available for BIRC?Citroen wrote:Here's my stuff from Basingstoke in 2010 http://rowing.dyn-o-saur.com/BSTK2010/s ... e_2010.zip that's what you get from the Venue Racing software if the checkbox to request it is checked.Bob S. wrote:The data from BIRC that I have seen is much more detailed, like rate and pace for every stroke. Bob... I found your splits in John's files from the race. I'll send them to you in a pm.
Your Virtual Challenge meters for LBRA are another matter...No excuses! You could have entered them manually in your online log.

The racing software has a polling system, at every time interval (which varies depending on how many PM3/PM4s are configured in the racing set-up) it goes out round each PM4 and requests the current values.
Each record (as polled NOT per stroke) has Interval, PM3, Time, Meters, Current_Pace, Stroke_Rate, Heart_Rate (the interval, PM3 and HR columns are always blank). Meters are cumulative, pace and stroke rate are current values when that PM4 was polled. As soon as the cumulative distance is over the race distance the data stops.
Code: Select all
Interval,PM3,Time,Meters,Current_Pace,Stroke_Rate,Heart_Rate

Pace doesn't include tenths.

I have a Louisville Slugger you can borrow if Bob needs some education on getting his metres logged.Joanvb wrote:Your Virtual Challenge meters for LBRA are another matter...No excuses! You could have entered them manually in your online log.
Re: How do I get my "data" from the race.
I tried using MS Excel in the same way that I use it for getting spreadsheets from my log card, but it seemed like all of the data ended up in one cell. It didn't matter really, since I could interpret the data from the original.Citroen wrote:Bob S. wrote: I use Microsoft Excel

You'll see from that that it's polling at approx 0.5 sec intervals.
The per stroke bit was my own wild guess as to how the BIRC data was presented based on the appearance of the available graphs. I did see that yours was in 0.5 second intervals. Joan sent me the data for my race at Long Beach and it was in 500m splits, but in the same format as your data. The format appears to be the same as the logcard and the documents from that are labelled .csv.
Bob S.
Edit: I just checked out the data from Joan and it is not the same format. The first item is the seconds for each split rather than a cumulative total. The third item is the same number, i.e. the split time. The logcard is different again with a lot of other garbage, like my name, the date, the time of day, name of the workout, and so on and on.

Long beach to Big Pine is a long reach for a Louisville Slugger, but I guess that she whack me with a ski pole along the way on a trip to Mammoth.Citroen wrote:I have a Louisville Slugger you can borrow if Bob needs some education on getting his metres logged.Joanvb wrote:Your Virtual Challenge meters for LBRA are another matter...No excuses!
