age 115 phenomenal records

Post by Bob S. » December 4th, 2015, 5:43 pm

There are a couple of 115 year-olds in the game now with fantastic verified records. A Peter Pan from Germany did well over 12k in an hour and Unknown Unkown (sic) of Madrid has a couple of great short pieces. "Veery Interesting." Well at least these guys are not competing in my own age level and I have no plans for eventual competition in the 115-119 age bracket (nor in the 95-99).

Bob,

Is their age verified?
Oldest person in Germany is currently 110 years old.
This is according to Wiki, but Germans are pretty meticulous white their record keeping:

I don't mind if they rounded it up by 30 years, it's still interesting.

Just to make it clear, I did not take these seriously. Also, with names like Peter Pan and Unknown Unknown, it seems certain to me that the whole thing is a prank. However, it points out the fact that the verification process has some serious weak points. For everything but the 2k, there is no check on age, weight, or gender. And even for the 2k, I have never heard of an age check. For the 2k there are also gender issues that were debated on the UK forum a while back - not actually about the 2k, but there is a potential issue there.

No matter what, its always based on trust, for me the verification has little value.

I was checking on the rankings and found the there are now a great many 115 year olds listed at several ranked distances and times, both men and women, some with phenomenal scores. Most of them are designated either verified or race. It looks like some one has found a formula for playing fun and games with the rankings.

Check out these three ladies from Italy:

It appears that BRIC was the venue for each of them.

Aha! It looks like BRIC is the culprit. It looks to me like their reporting system is screwed up.

http://www.indoorrowing.it/index.php/20 ... -week-end/

On that site, 2 of them are listed as lwt 40-49 and the third is lwt 50-54.

It's time to fire off and email to ranking@concept2.com to get these things fixed.

I see two of those 115 yos here. Can't see anything wrong with them.
The logbook entries were made at the recent BRIC London.
I've often seen 115 on other sites too, guess it's a bug of some sort.
Seems four of them did 50km in 3h26:

Sempre al Decathlon di Curtatone un equipaggio di quattro ragazze tra le quali le mantovane Ornella Speggiorin e Nicoletta Casali, ha preso parte a una staffetta sui 50km chiusa in 3h26m02.1s,
08-1940, 179cm, 75kg post-op (3 bp January 2025).

Pretty hard to verify someone is that old, records are hopeless that long ago so how do you know ? Carbon dating ?
