Hi Tom. Your new team is good to go. Don't forget to contact Joe Keating (Joe80 on here) when you think you're eligible to choose a challenge.

Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
Well done Sub7 for winning the January Challenge and, with 23 complete boats, launching the largest flotilla. Sub7 has narrowed the gap to Fitness Matters to a single point.
Welcome Team Ruderathlet.
RowPro Rowers, Cornish Gig Rowers and Olimpic Barcelona have the challenges for March, April and May.

Joe

Don’t understand the calculation here. There was one point separating FM and Sub7 after December’s ctc and still one point even though Sub7 won this month(January)?

Thanks for pointing out the error Marius. It's good to know that someone is checking. The mistake arose because I used the November table, rather than the December version, as a basis for the current one. As you rightly point out, Sub7 are now tied with FM for 1st place in this year's competition.
Apologies to all. I'm getting old ...

Joe

Very minor point, but heading for today's challenge should say 2018 Memorial Challenge, not 2017 Memorial Challenge.
Hard to believe it's been 11 years since Carole died.

Sorry Paul, I'll fix that when I'm home from Japan. It's really difficult updating the C2CTC on my phone on a flaky hotel network.

Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
Ok, I'm new to rowing and I want in on the CTC fun!
How does a newbie go about getting a seat in a boat? I'm a HW male, hopefully someone is willing to take me in?
Thank you!
BM
Edit: I recently joined the Forum Flyers, I think that probably should be mentioned?
Edit #2: I found the self-registration and submitted my info. Now what? I submit my challenge results somewhere and I am automatically placed in a boat for the month? Thanks again!

Thank you!

You only have to put in your result, you get in the boat belong. First three heavyman boat 1, next three 2 etc. number of attemps is free. During the month people will switch from boats, depending on people putting results in.burritomike wrote:Ok, I'm new to rowing and I want in on the CTC fun!How does a newbie go about getting a seat in a boat? I believe I get it now. I don't see a place to enter my Carole McNally result, I must have missed the window for entering that one.hjs wrote:You only have to put in your result, you get in the boat belong. Post your result for Carole's memorial row in the other thread and I'll add it on Monday when I'm back in Blighty.

Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
I'm just looking at the points tables above, and it appears that each team is awarded only the points earned by its highest placed floating boat each month. Is this correct? Just strikes me as strange that the positions (points) of all of a team's next boats count for nothing(?) I can understand a desire to avoid unduly favouring massive teams (e.g. some teams are getting 20+ boats launched in a single month), but I would have thought that a better balance would be to count the points for each team's first 3 or 4 boats afloat - i.e. as used in some team events such as running.

Henry, the 3 “heavyman” per boat is the de facto norm for most teams currently entering but F.I.R.T. Is floating all lady boats I believe so not much of a premium on either males or heavies except in our own minds.First three heavyman boat 1, next three 2 etc.

Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
The C2CTC rules have been done to death on the old, defunct UK forum and the current scheme devised by Joe Keating seems to work out fairest to ensure the twelve challenge choices per year are divided out evenly between the smallest and largest active teams.

Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
Jack, I was waiting for this. My explanation was wrong, it should be, MAX 3 heavy man, min 1 lady and 1 light man, so heavy man can be replaced by other rowers. But a serious boat needs 3 heavy man, given the advantage being taller/heavier gives.
I simply kept it uncomplicated.
