Thanks fellas. My start was shocking and I wasted too much energy clawing it back so with hindsight I must have lost some time on that, but I was rowing on fumes at the end.

I'll do another one in a week or so and see if the lack of racing start will help get a better PB
Been waiting to see this......great job. So you do this again tomorrow?

well done Stu - it will very interesting to see how you can back up - good test for recovery and head space as well. I find it really hard to go as hard following a PB type effort like that - go for it with nothing to lose! I noticed that G Benton did a "cruise" in the 6:20s so he has some room left.
Richard Cheeseman's 6:41 was very nice (was at 1:35s at the end) but the 65+ plus guys were actually faster that the rest of the 60+ in a very close race. George Perrin won in 6:59 which is pretty good at 68y.

Thanks Lindsay for giving me another few seconds :D but I only did 6:45.3  Full scores on the doors below:

2k - 1:41.3 - 30 - 336 - 6:45.3

Splits for those interested

1:42.5 - 30 - 325
1:42.6 - 30 - 324
1:42.3 - 30 - 327
1:37.8 - 31 - 374

Yes, no disrepect to my field but there was some quality in the 'older' field to provide some good racing. Although I was rather pleased for an 'easier' ride as it's the wrong time of year for me racing wise, so happy that none of the big guns from my age group turned up :D
I guess if this is going to be a regular thing I may adjust my training to suit. It was all pretty painless to set up at my end so can see more virtual racing going on in the future if it's relatively easy to organise

Well done Stu for your A-final race. Backing up a PB was a tough ask within 24hours - but that was strong race to be within 5s and thought you hit the start better than yesterday. Top job.

Good luck also to everyone else for finals day.

A long way away from any of these PBs now!!

Thanks everyone. I went from no chance am I doing it again, straight after the race, to maybe I will, to 50/50 this morning. In the end I knew I'd regret not going again if I bottled it.

As Dino said the start wasn't as bad but I also didn't panic and try and get the average pace down, which was showing as 2:36 at the start. I was struggling with 700m to go and I managed a small pick up in pace at the end but not enough. It was a slow fade all the way through which was to be expected as I'm really feeling the after effects of yesterday.

I tweaked a few things and it felt more in control, despite the pace dropping away, and I was happy to see r32 the whole way as I've not been able to happily maintain that recently, despite r30 being very comfortable for me.

FWIW The nameless one was in my login group as the 60-64s and 65-69s raced together. Thought after login he was warming up as there was 'like' a spinning wheel against his name (similar to rowpro) but I guess it wasn't the same. No surprise he did'nt race, turned up at BRIC once, saw him warm up and that was as far as he got! Never made it to his race machine.
There you go, a "did not connect" as predicted.

In 2006 Euro Open at the Dam, Rocket Roy, Dennis HASTINGS et Moi, kicked his ass well and truly and he said afterwards that he was still the best in the world in spite of his finishing 4th.

I read his stuff on this forum and have heard of all the no-shows, walk-offs and other unusual behaviour. Does anyone here actually know him well? Seems like such strange behaviour..... I wonder what's behind it

Hoho, a bit more respect for best erger ever. :D

Seriously, the man had one or two serious and good seasons, but after that he really lost it. Never heard someone say they really knew him.

There is a back story I am sure but don't know of anyone who actually knew him even when he was winning at Boston, setting WRs and the like. He is a retired professor of poetry from one of the NE Schools from memory. Increasingly erratic and unpleasant behaviour that sadly made him an easy target.

The disrespectful one was prof of poetry at University of Michigan Ann Arbor. He appeared to have a personality disorder and was banned for life from this forum for the unpleasant comments he made about other people.

He doesn't have a right to reply on here so we shouldn't discuss him or his mental health issues.

No, not yet. It's still possible as I don't think they confirmed last year's until around about this time last year.

That would be very bad, it is supposed to be a real event, not a zoommeeting.

They did BRIC online on 5/6 December 2020. Seems that BRVC and BRIC Online are two different events, BRIC only going online out of need - better than cancellation.
Whilst an event is great when everyone is there together it is only a test between those who are able to attend. Personally I could not afford the cost of travel to and overnight accommodation in London for BRIC. I can see a place for both BRIC done ‘in person’ and a virtual race for those who cannot attend in person.
