I'd be only cheating myself i just wanna see how close i could get to a regular rower, if i loose i loose but ill give it all i have i'm fully expecting a defeat but i'll try.

Can you give me an idea of what pace i need to get near?
No worries mate.
I believe you now.

Welcome to the world of indoor rowing. The best site is the UK site at http://www.concept2.co.uk/forum/
Get yourself registered over there as that is where I normally am. You can check my training diary on there as well to see what I am up to.
You should check it out as there are a few topics dedicated to you already :D

I am just getting back into my training at the moment but I reckon I won't be too far off PB pace.

I am training 5 - 6 days per week at present covering around 80,000metres per week.
What is you training schedule like?

John

It wasn't even your fault. Some PM3s have a hardware jumper to define which type they default to when the batteries go dead for more than half an hour. If that isn't set correctly you simply have to go by prior knowledge.

When it's set wrong the numbers simply don't look right, the drag factor number will be too high. (I sit in an ivory tower since I have my own PM4 (a free gift from Concept2) that I mount on either a model C or model D when I go into the gym.)

Hey John , just had a look at the uk forum have to say im a bit taken a aback by some of the comments calling me an arrogant p***k i understand this is your sport and fully expect it to be a near impossible task but hey its something different if you think its arrogant of me to ask i'll walk away now and leave the forum. Its not meant to be that way merely a bit of crack to keep training fun.

I do a lot of sports i've never tried before over here in Ireland with work mates and that and everything is taken in good banter and a few pints are had by all afterwards, not really used to this level of agression over a bit of fun so thinking about leaving it to you's on here now it all seems a bit cut throat.

Absolutely, I agree with you.
You may have done some good because your post led to me proving the ability to cheat the Ind_V ranking code.

My PB is 37 and a half minutes I think - It says below in my signature.

eoinom,

I don't see anyway you could possible win this. A sub 40 would be really good but his PB of 37:45 is completely out of reach.

Just to make this interesting, if you can beat me, I'll send you a concept II T-Shirt for free. Your choice of style and size. No bet just motivation for you.

Haven't done a 10K in a long time but my last years best was 38:50. I should be faster now but don't really have any idea of how much faster. I'm not going to promise doing more then one 10K this month.

If you are going to do well in this challenge, get yourself the how to row DVD video from Concept II. Also video tape yourself rowing and post it on U-Tube and then ask for advice on this forum. Do this at least once a week.

Since you are a marathon runner, your endurance is better so you would be better if the challenge was as long as possible. You would have had a much better chance of beating him at the half marathon then the 10K.

FIY, I can easily beat John's HM PB any day of the week, but there is no way I can touch his 10K, and his 2K PB is a good 25 seconds faster then mine.

(Edited for typos and clarity.)

Hey, Foyboy!
I now weigh 1kg less than you, am 15 years older, and have no own fitness club.

But I'd challenge you for a 10k (or for an HM).
I think I've seen some pics of your house, and I like it!

eoinom: If you go sub40, you have a free beer anytime you come to Barcelona! :D
John Foy: same thing for you!

Here's an idea or two ...

Everyone who wants to play, rows 1609m and posts it on http://C2CTC.COM having signed up as a member of John's team ("Village Leisure Liverpool").

Or everyone posts on http://Nonathlon.com and you use that system to even out the results.

Try not to get to put off by the aggression, the forum is typically very supportive once they realize you are an honest new comer... I think you just kind of got put in the wrong bucket immediately...

I think everybody is on your side now mate.
As chgoss says, I mistook you for one of our usual BS speakers when in fact you seem like a decent bloke.

There is only one person on their calling you a name and others have jumped to your defence.

It's up to you if you want to keep going.

Regards,
