Thanks everyone for all the kind comments. I just edited out a number of typos and grammatical errors, but none of the content.

Ernie, when I got the cold shoulder at the son's apartment I almost said something like "Dudes! I'm helping to pay for this place. Show some respect." But then I realized how lame and 'parental' that would have sounded to the dudes so I held my tongue. :D

Mary & Dennis, once a member of the Crew always a member of the crew. Congrats again Mary, and get your ass back here next time Dennis. B)

Carla, Sports Writing probably doesn't pay any better than Running Shop ownership does, even though I like doing both. Sadly most of my photos were either too dark or too blurry. They came out better at Newburyport because we got to be closer to the action where the flash could be effective. I've got to either improve my skills or get a better camera. Here's about the best I could do:

Closer up things came out better though, as can be seen here:

Whoa! How often does a guy get to have his picture taken with an Olympic Silver medalist? Especially one who is as beautiful as his own wife? Then again, how often does Joan Van Blom get to have her picture taken with the 60-64 men's lwt bronze medalist, who is.....um...er...skinner than her own husband?

Bill, your link doesn't seem to work. The video is here:

Don Seymour shot the entire race (mainly me!), with the start at 17 seconds. At about 3 minutes he zooms out a bit and we get glimpses of (right to left) Peter Francis of Colorado, Me, Gernot Einoder of Germany, Brian Bailey of England, Leif Petersen of Denmark, and Hugh Pite of Canada.

Anorak that I am, I sat and counted all the strokes on Don's video. If I counted correctly I took 262 strokes altogether, 36 in the first minute, 35 in the second, 35 in the third, 36 in the fourth, 36 in the fifth, 38 in the sixth, 41 in the seventh, and 5 in the final 6.5 seconds. According to the stroke rate data in the final 200m or so I kept a constant 44-45spm. Whew!

Whatchutalkinbout, it works just fine, now that I removed the stray character that got in the URL after I did a successful preview but before I posted
