Roy, when you move to Florida you will be less than a 26-hour drive away. :D

Wrapping up another year with some final photos:

Image
Dave Nock (8:12.0) knocking off a quick 2km before getting a tumor removed on February 1st. The Legend grows!

Image
Mary Van Beuren (9:05.2 PB ) establishing a new NE2KC age-50 lwt record.

Image
Race Director Rick Bayko tantalizing he crowd with the coveted Ice Scrapers.

Image
Mike Van Beuren accepts the Tackhammer (best lightweight time of the day) from the respectful director, who is doing his best Wayne's World imitation ('Not worthy, not worthy, I'm scum, I suck')

Image
The PaulS Sledgehammer award (fastest overall time of the day) held aloft for all to see before being claimed by Trevor de Koekkoek, with the strains of Verdi's Anvil Chorus blaring in the background.

2008 was a very good year.

Follow up;

Fourteen of the 21 competitors went on to the CRASH-B's with excellent results.

Trevor de Koekkoek 6:39.8 NE2KC, 6:29.1 CRASH-B's (PB )

Mike VanBeuren 6:47.6 NE2KC, 6:45.1 CRASH-B's (Hammer & PB )

Chad Goss 6:54.7 NE2KC, 6:49.4 CRASH-B's (not sure if PB or not)

Gary Passler 7:04.9 NE2KC, 7:00.9 CRASH-B's (Bronze medal)

Doug Snell 7:05.4 NE2KC (PB ), 6:57.4 CRASH-B's (PB )

Frank Knight 7:15.3 NE2KC, 7:08.7 CRASH-B's

Rick Bayko 7:21.0 NE2KC, 7:06.5 CRASH-B's (Bronze medal)

Bill Burke 7:23.2 NE2KC (PB ), 7:17.6 CRASH-B's (PB )

Jim Keating 7:29.3 NE2KC, 7:18.3 CRASH-B's

Carla Stein 7:29.9 NE2KC, 7:25.5 CRASH-B's (PB )

Gene Burnham 7:55.7 NE2KC (PB ), 7:26.0 CRASH-B's (PB )

Dave Nock 8:12.0 NE2KC (PB ), 8:13.9 CRASH-B's

Yvette Knight 8:51.8 NE2KC, 8:41.9 CRASH-B's (Bronze medal)

Mary Van Beuren 9:05.2 NE2KC (PB ), 8:55.1 CRASH-B's (PB )

We'll forgive Dave Nock for being the only one to not improve his time, due to extenuating circumstances. On February 1st he had an operation to have a cancerous tumor removed from the left groin area. Coming within 1.9 seconds of a PB 23 days later is at least as remarkable as anything that the rest of us did.
