Although I defend the free speech ethos etc, nearly all newsgroups etc have moderators, so I go along with you. Try posting in the wrong thread on some computer groups, and you more or less get lynched
PS, I recall with fondness the silent folk Rick B mentioned, Monty (Don), who he mentioned has just had a cracking new series shown on UK mainstream TV.
