And I see no reason whatsoever that Masters OTW rowing categories somehow "need" to supersede the C2 record categories. It looks from my perspective like FISA simply imposing itself without consideration of the practical consequences. And I would add that the change certainly wasn't adopted after any sort of meaningful input from the existing erging community, a large chunk of which has nothing to do with OTW rowing or FISA. I have nothing against FISA oversight of a world ergometer championships per se. Hell, for another week, I'm still the reigning 60-64 MHW WIRC champion. But I don't like what come across as an arbitrary and ill-considered rule change. And while I'm in rant mode, it seems to me that both the timing and location of this year's WIRC could be better. Total entries are about a third of what they were last year in Virginia: 752 in Long Beach vs 2227 in Virginia. Crash-B entries also were down, in what surely isn't an unrelated phenomenon....

It's quite evident that rowing/erging is predominately an eastern/midwestern US activity. Hopefully that is a factor when picking a venue for the rowing championships. It would be nice to know what the plan is for the next few years. Also, this new bracket determination needs to go.

I agree with venue choice. Indoor rowing is not quite the "legitimate" sport that FISA would like it to be. Yet. So better to choose a place where the most people are likely to show up. That would also get more world class people in the same place, a better "championship".

Regarding the change to the age brackets, it all depends on your perspective. My birthday is March 2, so I was competing with guys one year younger, essentially, than I was. i.e. I turned 65 two weeks after the race. So for me, the change effectively gains me a year, I like it! And, remember, it's the transition to the new brackets, one year, that is the issue. Once it's switched over, then everyone is back on the same schedule. I wholeheartedly agree that it all needs to be on the same system, however, to avoid confusion and double records in some cases (even if it is the one where I'm 50 weeks older).

Mark, my birthday is Mar 5, so we are in the same boat. Have to wait virtually an entire yr to post a time at a qualifying event. There seems to be no such events held after Mar 5. I'm thinking Melbourne FL would be a great place for the WRIC.

Race of the day in a way - the german lady was very impressive holding her 1:44 the whole way even when 12m back.

Steve concept2 only recognises 65-69 WR for 2k - the rest are 60-69 although some national records are in half decades for other distances as well.

thanks - I am doing pretty well and fitness is good. Not quite comfortable with the slowing down though. Racing on Saturday in New Zealand so another chance to test the limits.

Are you going to have a go at the 1:22.0? That would be fun.
