What about Los Gatos? They row on the Lexington Reservoir in Los Gatos, up the Santa Cruz Highway into the hills.stupefaction wrote:The weather is very congenial. One could easily row year-round. The trouble is that the Bay Area doesn't have much of a rowing culture. As far as I know, there's only one rowing club for adults in the South Bay. It's in Redwood City, 33 km from my current digs.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of the Los Gatos Rowing Club. I see that they don't have a whole lot of water, but I bet it's calmer than the bay, and it's closer to where I live. I'll have to check it out.

Re: English IRC Manchester
PS I am aware of lots of races but unfortunately the Frankfurt and Essen races only have a 1k for us old dears - yeah I could go open 2k but at 52 that would probably be a right whalloping. Being a long distance lassie I have got into Dusselsdorf 6k (16 Dec) and Starnberg 30 mins is very likely an option on 17 Feb 2018. Hamburg on 3 March (marathon madness) will be a case of who gets on line to enter first this Friday - only 12 places up for grabs. It is a shame I have to go to Germany to get my fill of events but it has been like that for a while.NavigationHazard wrote:There don't seem to be any outside events listed at the velodrome for the first two weekends in February: http://www.nationalcyclingcentre.com/about/events/
But that doesn't necessarily mean the arena is available, or affordable if available....
If the usual organizers want it to happen, they're running out of time (if not already there). The German national championships are already scheduled for 2/4/18 (in Essen), if you're looking for an alternative....
Re: English IRC Manchester
FWIW, at the weekend in Wales the word was that the Velodrome is getting renovated, and that's why they couldn't hold it.
If only there were other facilities in Manchester. It's a small city after all, with not much interest in sport.
Oh, wait...
