Maybe, but I sort of doubt it. They have a huge amount of rowers and times to process. An old guy from GA doesn't amount to a hill of beans to C2. Perhaps the most relevant data for me would be three rankings at <= 17:40 in the last six years, but again I doubt it.

Now you've gone and done it. He'll probably be rowing 6:40 on Feb 10 at GA Tech and I'll be chasing again. I should have never gone last yr, letting a Tar Heel [whatever that is] have it over a Rambling Wreck.

Jim, your "unofficial" record got me curious so tonight I decided to peruse the C2 records. I started with the youngsters (which I was at one time) and worked my way up to my age group (60s), then I looked at the 70s:

It's Official

I got a laugh at your comment above about C2 not caring about a 70 year old man: Dick Dreissigacker turns 70 this year and Peter is not too far behind (they are the founders of C2).

Real name is Stewart. Although I go by "Remo" on most things related to rowing as it means rowing in most of the latin languages. This is my C2 logbook/'ranking profile: https://log.concept2.com/profile/4926
Stewart MH 63+ https://log.concept2.com/profile/4926
Started rowing in 1975.

Stewart, looks like we are pretty close in several of the distances. If I hold up, I would like to put my name in a couple more of the slots in WRs, Indoor Rower. You may have noticed that I have the WR for slides from 1K thru 10K and HM. Course, there are only five people with slides in the world. Some think slides are easier, but I'm not so sure. When I finally get in top shape on the std erg, I think my times will be very close to those I did on slides over a yr ago.

Thanks for putting that info in the discussion. I'll be tracking you in the future. BTW, I've had some correspondence with Peter D. In 2012 he emailed me and encouraged me to come to Crash B in 2013 after I did 6:40.7 at age 66. Alas, I couldn't make it. Also more recently we talked about his low damper setting video and front loaded force curve. We both agreed, it is total area that counts. JimG

Well done Jim! Good to see you back on it. I almost said something smart ass a day or two ago, but then got distracted :D I hope to see you in ATL again this year, although I may have gotten even softer with all the OTW fun I've been having. Getting back into the grueling and relentless world of 4 x 1K on 5'R doesn't sound nearly as much fun as rowing in a double with my wonderful partner.

I look forward to eating crow and witnessing a WR from my southern friend. BTW - although I live in North Carolina, I'm a UGA Bulldawg, which I'm sure makes my victory last year even sweeter for you!

Glenn, Feb 10 is a long ways away. Feeling, doing well now is only a slight indicator of three months down the road. We'll see how it turns out.
I actually prefer erging to OTW. You can't duplicate the single-minded intensity of erging on the water. Too much to worry about.

I really misnamed this thread. The intent is to mark the road to WIRC or equivalent events.
This is not a training thread, per se. It is to note points along a path leading to target times for WIRC, etc.

Matters got a little sidetracked over how C2 verifies WRs. But. thanks to them for recognizing my 5K WR, but it's nothing I was going to insist upon. The 18:00.1 was my first good marker on the road to WIRC. I hope to reach 6:48-6:50 or 1:42-1:42.5. I really need another sec off of 5K, from 1:48 to 1:47.

Continuing in this vein. Today, a brisk 6K. A discordant note is that I'm in the midst of trying to get over a back tweak from last Wed. Did easy 8K on Sat. Still not healed, however. Even though I was sluggish and rowing protectively, I managed a 21:58.9 @1:49.9, 264, 33, 8.0 6K. The WR by Frans van Mierlo is 21:54.5. To be blunt about it, this week is a bit of a setback. I'm supposed to be doing AN and TR speed work this coming week. Not sure I can get away with that.

Another point on the path to WIRC. Posts can/will range from good, bad, to ugly.
Back has been tweaked and has impacted me a bit - fitness edge has gotten rounded off. Better but still a nuisance.

Today, 11/8: First, 1.25K warmup: @1:48.5. Then 2K-race-pace 1K: 3:24 @1:42.0. 10' rest. 2K: 7:08.4 @1:47.1. Etc.
Nothing in these numbers to write home about. I merely post to myself and readers to remind that getting where one wants ain't easy.
Hoping next post has some positives. Still got time. 10 wks to Jan 20.

Keep your posts current Jim, I enjoy reading about your progress and the ups and downs along the way. I plan on going to WIRC in Va in February, maybe see ya there? First heavy week for me on the erg, I'll be posting on the training thread.

I'm pretty serious about the WIRC trip. The wife wants to go. She insists Kodiak has to go too, one of our Goldendoodles. Have to find dog-friendly quarters. It will be interesting to see so many good rowers in one venue. Ga Tech gets maybe a handful of good rowers over forty.

Ups and downs is correct. Really, WIRC is around 15 weeks away. Getting ready to race in the next couple of weeks is not smart. And I'm the worst about that. But having said that, markers along the way to show some progress are good. And that is what I'm doing here. Need to see a trend to the goal.

That means you'll win the C2 trip to WIRC, right? :D

I'm also planning on going, hopefully after a successful showing at Seattle's Ergomania. I'll be lurking, watching your training, and yours too, Ed. If I have a decent row, maybe I'll post it (I did a 30' piece two days ago; 7711m).

That's what I'm looking for, too. Following the IP, mostly, monitoring my "feeling" about it all.

I've been a WIRC qualifier four times now at Ga Tech in last six years (didn't go two years). But have never used the free plane ride to Boston. This time I will be driving. Maybe I can get compensation for that. Actually, don't really care. I just want things to work out logistically. I'm looking for a pet friendly hotel with free parking at the hotel close to TC Williams HS. Not much to ask. Course, initial searching shows few pet friendly places and really the hard thing is parking. I keep reading that one can park down the street for $35/day. What's with that? Not customer friendly. But I'll find something.

If I can get my tired body ramped up, my plan calls for a brisk 30min this Sunday. That's as far as I will go in next three months. Yep, got to see progress in next few week. By Xmas, it will all be known. Up or down.

I suppose today is a positive. I planned on doing a brisk 30min today. But fatigue has set in: arms, back, butt, etc. So, the idea is to start like we aren't tired and try to hold on. Turned out OK.

30min, 8166, 1:50.2, 261.4W, 31, 8.4 SPI. Current WR is 8103, Frans van Mierlo, NED. Again on PM2 machine. Will submit photos to C2.
Generally speaking I have a 7sec gap from 2K to 30min. This says I'm sitting somewhere around 1:43 for 2K. Course, proof is in the doing.

I have no idea why these photos are rotated.

Because the site you loaded them on didn't read the EXIF data in the photo's metadata.

This is some sort of iPhone trickery. One time the wife sends me pix and they work, the next time not. She has no idea what she did differently, and she has no tolerance about being bothered with it. I guess I take what I can get: up right or rotated pix.

Google photos knows how to read EXIF, it's no difficult and most digital cameras add the EXIF data to the images when they save them.
