Yes! The board is looking credible again.

I guess a direct invitation may induce Mr Echelberry to row the Military Challenge which starts on February 1st.

Joe

There were 7 in the bed and C2 said,
Roll over, roll over.
So they all rolled over and one fell out, 6 in the bed and C2 said,
Roll over, roll over.
So they all rolled over and one fell out,
--until Jack found himself back in the first 100. :D

All this tells me is that you don't care about the Honor Board; you can't speak for everybody who uses the C2.

Personally, I value any motivation where I can find it. I include the Honor Board, the various team monthly challenges like the current VTC, the Holiday Challenge for Charities, yearly ranking, record attempts whether individually or in teams, the CTC, the Lightweights Monthly Challenge on facebook, the C2 monthly challenge on facebook, the Nonathlon, the IRL with its 8on8 competition and venue racing. All have a part to play.

Joe

This has all been covered before but Concept 2 are not interested in fixing the problem.

Eventually technology will fix it with only verified rows being able to be uploaded (currently everyone doing stupid meters also conveniently claims to have a PM2 that has no verification) and things like RowPro will be Online ONLY (seriously who uses a computer these days without and internet connection or even a phone without data ?) so it will self correct.People will eventually be using technology as its convenient and fast with a LogBook that automatically synchronizes to the C2 LogBook.

Concept 2 could fix it real quick by deleting the manual meters entry or at least prompting you for the verification code before its accepted.Even then your going to get all sorts of excuses from those at the top of the board.

Also as I have said before, distance without pace information is junk anyway, I mean someone says they have just run a Marathon and your impressed right ? however someone of able body says they have "Run" a marathon in 8 hours and its like who cares ? More information should be available by default if you click on a persons name and it should not be able to be all hidden or simply add another column with their average pace for those meters to add some perspective.

The problem as it stands and that also applies to the challenges is that they are stuffed up by a few people and so many others simply don't bother with them. If the whole system was verified then perhaps the participation would actually increase. As it stands many people cannot be bothered.

One decent improvement was the filters, you can now filter by verified only in the rankings, helps take out the potential rubbish. We can only live in hope that it gets adopted across the board at some time in the future.

As a matter of fact, a very large majority of those alive at this moment care absolutely not at all about old Jack's annual meter total. Or Joe's ultradistance record. Likewise Remi's best hour pace. Ditto Carl's personal goal (7.5k per day @ 2' av. pace--or maybe 2:03 or 2:08?--per annum), Bob Spenger's hammer collection, and very likely Doc Baker's specialty--the 1400+watt 100m. For cat's sake, show a tiny bit of respect for those few who share YOUR interest in physical culture/athletic performance and who recognize and respect YOUR daily and yearly progress.

Verification--like locks--keep honest folks honest. I support verified meterbd. submission for all 6000+ participants.

Kool! Rowing for meter totals alone can indeed easily become a compulsive and counter-productive behavior in terms of overall fitness and intracellular health. Verification assures that we are doing what we say we're doing in terms of a very simple and universally-applicable metric. It has no bearing on the training we SHOULD be doing based on our individual circumstances, age, genetic gifts, athletic pedigree, state of health, time available, etc. A participation challenge merely sums up devotion to participation--not the quality of participation. The fleas come with the dog.

True we do not really care about others results, however some of us do use the board for motivation and inspiration and would like to know that our standing on it is valid.

I'm sure some people even use it for setting their goal for the year, I did this year and I suspect many older people begin to drop off the very intensive "Rankings" and simply aim to keep turning over the meters for general fitness.

If you put in the genuine effort your should be entitled to a genuine result. There are no financial rewards here but the psychological rewards and motivation are huge to some people, why would you bother uploading in the first place if it wasn't ?, why else would people start to get annoyed when they start to feel cheated ? Why do we get a post like this every year ?

Yes the 7500M+ a day is going well and the average pace of 2:01.2 to date is smashing my PB. Today marks the 100 days to go point in the season ! Yes its an OCD this year and the meters are going to drop big time next year, a challenge that lasts a whole year is just too hard.
