Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
The Diamonds have concluded their poll and decided on the February CTC:
All the 60's
Row 12 x 60 secs - 60 secs rest between each.
With 5 making up a boat that makes 60 x 60 secs in total.
First rep from a standing start, others as you like.
Regards,
Joe

Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
Hey, I’ll give it a shot. How bout total meters rowed in 12’? The fancy, smancy numeromancy is just for show as usual, probably leading some poor soul to enter total meters for 12’ rest. Wouldn’t that be oodles of fun? A savant might think there are only 11’ rest but some never pass on an opportunity for extra .
BTW, 60”x60=3600”=60’. 5x12’=60’. 5x11’=55’. 60”x23=1380”=.38hr. So it follows that >17 boatloads of <7s=business as usual.

I'm thinking (like jack) that it's just
12x 1'/1'R
record active meters
standing start for first and rest as you like it

Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
it's to do with the Diamonds being over 60s so trying to tie that in to the challenge

Quintuples of diamantine sexagenarians do it in 60 ticks. Will we get to see slophies?

Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
As a new person to this forum, a team, this thread, and rowing terms or rules, I would like to ask a few (hopefully not stupid) questions for this challenge.
Thanks, Scott
- When you all do a challenge like this, are you programming it into the C2 monitor? If so, I assume you set it for row a minute and rest a minute?
- For the resting period on this challenge, are you to stopping completely and resume at the 1-minute mark, or is it an active rest? If active, how are you separating the rest meters from the row meters?
Thanks, Scott

Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
Yes Scott we program the PM - New Workout, Intervals, Time, set 1 Min (its the default on PM5) tab down to set rest at 1 min, hit the tick to set it.
Once you set off it counts down the first minute of rowing - you can stop when it gets to 0. It then counts down a minute of rest. During this minute you can do what you like - some like to carry on slowly, others like me need to stop completely and gasp. KEEP WATCHING the screen. When the rest period gets down to 0 you need to start your next interval immediately - if you miss it your results will be badly affected. Once you get through 12 intervals (it will say 12 on the screen once you've finished it) then hit the menu key to finish the session. You can then look in the memory and if you List by Date your latest session will be at the top and hitting the magnifier key will display the results including at the top the Active distance (which you should enter as you result in the challenge). The resting meters will also have been recorded, but I cant remember how you see them - I use ergdata and when I sync that with the C2 log, the C2 log shows both Active meters and Resting meters separately.
I hope this helps. Its really simple, but typing it all out makes it looks much more complex than it is!

Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
Well done. It is a pretty hard challenge, though with an unfamiliar challenge like this knowing what pace to go at to maximally challenge yourself can be a bit problematic. Now you've done it once maybe you have a better idea as to whether you were flat out or not .
Just to add to Mike's (MPx) advice. Some CTC Challenge with repeats or intervals specify that you can do rolling rather than static starts after the first. This oe does allow rolling starts. If you are just doing training intervals its purely a matter of choice however if you are looking to contribute to your teams overall result you can get a faster time with a rolling start. My own practice is to start easy at about 5 seconds remaining on my rest time, get up to speed on your second stroke with a harder faster pull and I can then row through the start at about my target pace, albeit the initial monitor reading can be a bit erratic depending on exactly when in your stroke the zero comes.
Rowers also vary as to what they do in the rest period. Some row gently through the rest. Some remain on the machine but just breathe very hard. Personally, after a few gulps, I get out of my foot straps, stand up, walk about and perhaps sip some water and then get back on the rower with 30-seconds to go start strapping in with about 20 seconds to go and pick up the handle with about 8-10 seconds to go. Needless to say I'm also doing a lot of very hard breathing. .
