Re: 2025 World Rowing Indoor Championships
Hi. Is it possible to obtain a link to the times from the World Open Heats of 2023 that qualified for the Continental Knockout Heats ?
I would like to get a rough idea of the qualifying pace I would need to row for the 2000m mens’ lightweight 70+ category, before I decide to enter the championships, as I am relative new to rowing (competitive runner, cyclist, triathlete).
Thanks.

I dont remember ever having to qualify before. Certainly not in 2022.

Re: 2025 World Rowing Indoor Championships
This is the first year I consider this and I read that for 2025 there are "World Open Heats, Continental Knockout Heats, Elimination Semi-Finals, and Grand Finals". Only the fastest rowers get from the World Open Heats to the Continental Knockout Heats, etc. It is what I mean by "qualify".
That is why I would like an idea of the time that might permit me (+70 LW M) to get through the World Open Heats into the Continental Knockout Heats. I didn't find that information in the links.

Honestly Colin, I think any time would likely get you through. The notes say they are accepting the first 150 in each category from each continent. In practice in the competitions that I've watched the older Masters categories have just a handful of entries. There are currently only 63 70+LW M entries in the rankings, which suggests they would all be welcome - times from 7+ to over 9 minutes. The rankings will give you a clue as to how competitive you are likely to be on the day. Some choose not to rank but then put in strong scores from "nowhere" - but mostly the people taking part will be those in the rankings. Like all competitions, you can only win against those that show up - and often that means that top "ranked" individuals aren't amongst the medals as they don't compete. IMO you should just go for it and enjoy the experience...

Are there any afterparties at the world championships?
Re: 2025 World Rowing Indoor Championships
While I agree that attending is worthwhile for anyone vaguely competitive (I attended 8 races and was only not last 3 times!). That is not how I read the criteria, there are 150 places for lightweight men then another 10 for 70MPx wrote: ↑December 30th, 2024, 9:52 amHonestly Colin, I think any time would likely get you through. + LWt men. So that would be 7:12 for the first 150 LWts (although I am sure in reality more won't apply than are unranked), with the next 10 70+ Lwts would currently take you to 8:05.5.
56, lightweight in pace and by gravity. Currently training 3-4 times a week after a break to slowly regain the pitiful fitness I achieved a few years ago. Free Spirit, come join us http://www.freespiritsrowing.com/forum/

Thanks. That's nice to know, as I can get under 8:05 without killing myselfiain wrote: ↑December 31st, 2024, 6:07 amWhile I agree that attending is worthwhile for anyone vaguely competitive (I attended 8 races and was only not last 3 times!). I enrolled yesterday and I submitted a tempo row with video of weighing-in etc, just to test out the system.

Re: 2025 World Rowing Indoor Championships
I've just entered the LWT 75-79 category (male). Only one other entrant so far - Rod Stewart with a time of 7:15 which is about 90 seconds faster than my PB. I'm unlikely to win but I could get a silver if no one else enters! I don't think it's Rod Stewart the singer although he'd be about the right age and weight.

Thanks for the correction Iain - I need to take more care! But unless its all change from what we're used to, then in practice I doubt that many of the 70+ categories will attract even 10 entries... With no limit last year 70-74 was 11; 75-79 was 5. And a couple of the faster ones may have been in the "150"
Ha! You're right. Rod's been competing for a few years - but not musically. When I first watched him, his old race plan was to hare off as fast as poss and die over the distance. Must be one of the most painful ways of doing it. That's clearly changed now as he followed the classic race plan with fastish start, settled for the middle, and pushed on again at the end for an excellent 7:18 and Gold at BRIC this year!konarzewski wrote: ↑December 31st, 2024, 8:47 amI don't think it's Rod Stewart the singer although he'd be about the right age and weight.

Re: 2025 World Rowing Indoor Championships
Interesting idea, but a little tricky in a purely virtual environment - perhaps you can raise a glass on screen at the end of the race, (although that might only be water).
Yep - there were some good socials around 2005 to 2010, (particularly after Euros in Amsterdam one year). I think it is part of history now, unless I have been left out of the invites for some reason.
Anyway - Happy New Year and the big 60 round the corner. Just a youngster it seems.

Yes, thanks. I realised it wasn't the singer (although he's quite sporty). Rod Stewart the rower has - unfortunately for me - just turned 75 so I missed competing against him at the BRIC by a couple of weeks (he was in the 70-74 category). It would be great to meet him in person but that will have to wait until the next BRIC. Whilst I expect to improve by a few seconds before then, I won't be expecting to beat him.

Re: 2025 World Rowing Indoor Championships
Does anyone understand how the ranking works on the WRICH25 open heats? I have a ranking number of 3, with a fairly ordinary time for a 2k. I'm ranked 3 out of what? In what? It can't be 50-54MLWT.
Edit: Nevermind, i believe i worked it out. I think it is the ranking in the C2 logbook based on your geography and age group at that distance. It threw me because i don't rank any of my pieces, someone else has done it without me knowing. It probably has nothing to do with the time entered for WRICH.
