Bristol Indoor Championships
Bristol Indoor Championships
Morning,
There is the opening that an indoor rowing event could be organised for this September, (probably Sunday 22nd September).
1) Who'd be up for it?
It is a semi small venue but has a good sized studio and a big screen, so I'd need someone tech savvie in setting up races to be involved.
so Question 2
IF we went for it, is there someone reading this that would be able to get involved and help
Rowers would be sorted with C2, they'll already be in Bristol for a different event

I might be interested in this, but I live too far away & far too un-tech savvie to help.
I'm fairly sure you'd have some good interest from other ergers.

Re: Bristol Indoor Championships
Any more info on the location and venue? e.g. town, internet, erg types, etc.?
Re: Bristol Indoor Championships
Bristol would be a great place for my team (The Diamonds OVer Sixties Erging Group) to have a get together of some of our UK members so I'm sure I could get at least 20 people along to it.
67 year old, 72 kilo (159lbs), 5'8''/174cm (always the shortest on the podium!) male. Based just south of London.
Best rows as an over 60. One Hour.....16011 metres. 30 mins.....8215 metres. 100k 7hrs 14 mins.

I'm just doing the research at the moment, but it will be at a Workout Gym location in South Bristol, The gym owner is in on it as well.
There is a big crossfit event the day before run by them so taking advantage that there will be 35 machines from C2 already here.
All Model E and PM5.
No idea about internet connection as well. if it is easy we will but main aim is to get an in person event going.
Re: Bristol Indoor Championships
While I hadn't ever really considered rowing competitively I only moved from South Bristol in jan 2020 and am still the "right side" of the river, though out in the shire now; I may be foolish enough to consider it; but it would be a big mindset shift to actually aim to "git gud" at a specific event rather than just general fitness.

+1, love the idea of it, tech is not my strong point. I'll still keep an eye out mind and maybe make a weekend of it as I do like that end of the country.Dangerscouse wrote: ↑February 13th, 2024, 10:39 amI might be interested in this, but I live too far away & far too un-tech savvie to help.

Believe me, just competing and meeting fellow ergers is a magical thing for the first time. You'll worry about where you'll finish to start with, but put that to one side as that's just your ego talking.p_b82 wrote: ↑February 14th, 2024, 5:39 amWhile I hadn't ever really considered rowing competitively I only moved from South Bristol in jan 2020 and am still the "right side" of the river, though out in the shire now; I may be foolish enough to consider it; but it would be a big mindset shift to actually aim to "git gud" at a specific event rather than just general fitness.
I rowed alongside someone at BRIC in December who, IIRC, achieved a 25 second PB!! The audience effect and adrenaline are a very potent mixture.

Re: Bristol Indoor Championships
What a great initiative Chris - I hope it comes off. I'm not into erging in public or competition myself, but I do very much enjoy watching it and have been to many BIRCs,BRICs and DIRCs to see you all do your stuff. I've even sat through a few hours of virtuals on occasion through Covid times, but they just aren't the same. So I'm not up for supporting by taking part, but would be very happy to help out in the background.
Having said that, I'm nearly 90 mins from Bristol in South Somerset with extremely limited tech skills and only ever once ran an erg "race" event in 1998 - my guess is the tech has moved on somewhat! So probably not much use to you, but according to my Mum I can come in handy for "liftin' 'eavy fings" if you think there may be anything within my pay grade that needs doing. In all seriousness more than happy to help out if it means helping get another live event in the calendar.

Sounds great. I am one of Rod's Diamonds. Will it be sanctioned by C2?

Re: Bristol Indoor Championships
Sorry I am so out of date in getting to this thread.
I am coming back from second hip replacement and definitely would like to do this as a competitor in person, (will depend on mums health at the time but if I dont need to be there before 11am that would be even better). Only interested in mile or longer - preferably longer.
I am not a Techie as far as setting up races is concerned.
