Training for my first World Indoors. Any tips for training plans or tapering, etc?
And, what to expect on race day? Any suggestions or tips there as well?
Anything at all is helpful as I'm pretty lost - it will be my first indoor erg competition. Best of luck to all competing!

Do you mean this year? In 3 weeks time? If so then you have missed the boat to start a training plan. Did you not have to qualify by racing in a qualifying event?cLev3lander! wrote: ↑January 31st, 2023, 1:31 pmTraining for my first World Indoors. Any tips for training plans or tapering, etc?

What distance have you entered and what is your current best time for that?
If you are not used to racing then you need to only race yourself. Understand what the best time you can achieve is and row strictly for that. The worst thing you can do is get caught up in the hype and sprint off to get in front at a faster pace than your best time. You will die just after the halfway point and struggle to finish.

You will get an adrenaline rush that makes you feel invincible, but if you let that rule your decisions and pace, that will leave you after about 800m, and then it's horrible. I speak from experience in my first ever 2k competition.cLev3lander! wrote: ↑January 31st, 2023, 1:31 pmAnd, what to expect on race day? Any suggestions or tips there as well?
Stick to your plan, ignore other rowers, trust yourself, and enjoy the day.

Get there uber early as its your first time to check out the lie of the land. Where to warm up, where the toilets are etc et al. You should be drinking plenty of liquids and there's normally a que for the toilets so bare that in mind.
Your training should give you an idea of what time to expect and allow you to work out a pace plan. Stick to your plan.
Adrenaline will pump you up so the tendency is to go out too fast and you'll think you'll be able to hold it, but you probably won't. Knowing that, just hit the first 5 strokes then settle on your plan, ignoring how easy you think it is. Any excess energy you may have can always be used in the last 500 not the first.
All the best
