Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
Hi CTC Admin team,
One of my eagle-eyed team mates has spotted that the 1st 3 entries on the November CTC board have been duplicated back onto the October CTC board, namely the ones for Giles Clarke, Amy Claskson and David Gates. Now whilst I'm not complaining (because Giles' duplicated result has come out in RLR's favour, promoting our Boat 1 up to 6th (from 12th if memory serves)), it should really be corrected, shouldn't it, because it skews the results otherwise.
Could I ask you to please make sure to correct Giles' October CTC time back to what it was (21:00.4), rather than just deleting it, because if you just delete it, we'll drop from 6 boats to 5 boats + 1 in the dock in October.
Thank you,
George Bingham

Sub7 finished in first place for the October Challenge. Well done!
The Diamonds matched their record of last month with 47 boats floating. That's a wonderful level of participation.
Future Challengers:
December - The Diamonds
January - Gee Crew
February - FIRT

Joe

Here's an early heads up from The Diamonds (Over Sixties Erging Group).
For the December CTC we've chosen;
The Super Sixties Super Sprint. (A fast 500 for a final fling!)
500 metres.
Start from a Stationary Flyweel.
No other stipulations.
Hopefully that will help all teams to get a good turnout for the last month of the year

67 year old, 72 kilo (159lbs), 5'8''/174cm (always the shortest on the podium!) male. Based just south of London.
Best rows as an over 60. One Hour.....16011 metres. 30 mins.....8215 metres. 100k 7hrs 14 mins.

Can I get a password reset for Daniel Evans? Just created it but then my password manager ate it .
Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
Congratulations to The Mad Team for returning to the head of the leaderboard for the November challenge. The Diamonds excelled themselves by adding eight boats to their own record participation and launching fifty-five crews.
This unprecedented success creates a problem in deciding future CTC challengers. If their number of boats is maintained or, maybe, increased, The Diamonds would be providing all the challenges for months ahead. This is an unintended consequence of the current formula for deciding challengers.
My proposal is to alter the formula from the current 2xActive Months + Boats Launched to 4xActive Months + Boats Launched. If anyone would like a vote on this, please set up a poll accessible to facebook and C2 forum users. Otherwise, please express your opinions on this thread.
If the proposal is generally accepted, it will be implemented from the April 2023 challenge.

Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
George Bingham put a simpler proposal on the facebook page that the number of active months plus a maximum of ten boats should decide the challenger. I support this over my own scheme as it future-proofs against the scenario of teams producing, say, 100 boats but also retains an element that encourages participation.joe80 wrote: ↑December 4th, 2022, 10:36 am

Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
Hi all,
Thanks to everyone who works to maintain this great monthly challenge. I enjoy contributing most months, and have often benefited from the inclusive rule of a guaranteed seat in the boat for lightweights. I have a suggestion which may have been discussed previously, which is to make the competition even more inclusive by saying that Seat 4 is for lightweights or female heavyweights (whoever is faster). I know that Seat 5 is already guaranteed for females, but it seems unfair that a 68kg male can take Seat 4 over a faster 65kg female, for example. Changing this rule could get more boats floated, and might help encourage even more females to take part.
Thanks for considering this.

No reason the mhwts shouldn’t follow your lead and invite genderless competition for one of their three guaranteed seats except it aint going to happen. Many of us are happy to have automatic admission to categories that inflate our importance.. Ordinal ranking is not chivalrous but it is fair to all.

Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
Better models were available for a gender-inclusive rowing comp way back when DC wrote the code so why 5 in a boatload? Coxed 4? Don’t think so. How bout 8 seats? 2 allotted to each of the gender+weight classes. That would have provided parity of opportunity.

You need to let me know your team name and it will happen
Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
Hi all, discovered I still had access to this account from back when I began rowing. Funny looking back at posts from my freshman year of HS...... since then went on to row in college and then promptly didn't touch an erg for two years after graduating .
Just started getting back into erging about 2 months ago, and looking for some challenges to keep me motivated. Is there a best way to go about joining a team?
