You know, if you have a PM5, you can program this as a 2' on/1' rest workout and it will just give you the sum meters for the 2' on time and give you separate rest meters (no need to do any complex maths). Then the only trick is that people have to be honest about letting the flywheel stop before starting the next 2' piece.
Yes, even with our PM3, you can program the intervals and not have to do the mental math. My initial question was about the "standing start" definition (not about having to do the subtraction). I usually start rowing before the start of the interval to get my muscles going again- so it will be a bit of a mental effort to remind myself that I have to wait until the rest period is finished.
I have enjoyed all the discussion!

It's taken me some time but I've now realised why the Chain Pullers specified the session in the way they did. Set as intervals variable, with no rest period after the final work interval, you can row flat-out until the end of the sixth effort and accrue no rest metres. It's a marginal gain and you have to add five lots of rest metres to produce the total. Most of us can manage that even without a calculator.
Regards,
Joe

MAD have now won all five challenges so far this year. Outstanding!
The Diamonds added an extra boat to last months 17 to produce an 18 strong flotilla. That's great support among our senior rowers with some excellent performances.
Free Spirits have the challenge for January.
Future Challengers:
November - The Diamonds
December - MAD
January - Free Spirits

Joe

Great idea for a CTC but unfortunately will have dozens of entries where people haven’t read the rules and won’t do the subtraction.
I agree. I’ve already seen one entry where a CTC was posted on FaceBook and the meters entered on the CTC website did not include a reduction for rest meters. This was an experienced rower and who knows how many others have made/will make the same mistake.

Yeah, spotted two myself so far. One on the CTC page on day 1, and another on our club page today. There are bound to be a fair few more in other teams.

I've updated the instructions on the CTC web page.

Hi,
Can you delete the score for the current challenge for Richard SA in The Delivery Room team as there was an issue and he's going to rerow it.
Also, Karl Hoods score as that one has weird stuff going on too.
Both have asked me to request this.
Thx in advance.

Done.
The People's Front of Judea and the Judean People's Front now both exist.
Is it you or the other team that's picking the CTC for next month?

I'm registered twice, as "Rachel Harris" and "ESPRIT Rachel Harris." Would you please delete the first account?
Thank you!

Sorry Rachel, both of those IDs have entered a result at one time or another so they can't be deleted. I can change the name, but nothing more than that.
