Maybe, and there can very well be a place for virtual stuff, but if it would take over the real events, that would be a very sad affair. When covid blows over, although at this point I believe nothing anymore before I see it, I really hope we will go back to close as normal, and that means, life in person racing. Not sitting alone in our shed looking at a screen.Tony Cook wrote: ↑April 6th, 2021, 6:28 amThey did BRIC online on 5/6 December 2020. Seems that BRVC and BRIC Online are two different events, BRIC only going online out of need - better than cancellation.
Whilst an event is great when everyone is there together it is only a test between those who are able to attend. Personally I could not afford the cost of travel to and overnight accommodation in London for BRIC. I can see a place for both BRIC done ‘in person’ and a virtual race for those who cannot attend in person.

Thanks all. Yes, I believe the "virtual" race was not intended to displace BRIC.
I hope it will happen online again. It's a lot of fuss travelling that far for such a short race.

It really is. I left at midday on the Friday, to stay in a hotel just outside Luton, that was still about 45 miles away. Got up at 6am to get to London in good time for a 10am start, and six minutes & 40 seconds of action, followed by a five hour drive home.

Ha! Exactly. Particularly bad if only doing the 500m!Dangerscouse wrote: ↑April 6th, 2021, 10:37 amIt really is. Re: British Rowing Virtual Champs
For me the Virtual Racing is a non-event. I dont have my own ergo and there is no way I am going to be able to set up to race at our local gym. Seriously hope live racing makes a comeback, although maybe not for a little while as lockdown has also meant that very little erging for a long while.
PS The travelling is part of the whole experience IMHO. Been to various European cities to race 2k and more, and hoping that by November 2021 it might be possible to get stuck in again.

Re: British Rowing Virtual Champs
British Rowing have just sent out a survey to see if another British Rowing Virtual Championships would be popular. It is intended to be in addition to bric.
They are considering other distances too (the survey considers 200m up to marathon). Looks like it would be good if it goes ahead. It would be in September, not June.
