2020 National Championship (USA)?
2020 National Championship (USA)?
So, while we know the next WRIC will be in Paris, I was wondering if there has been any news on the National Championship (USA). In February at the WRIC in Long Beach, CA they held the World and National Championship at the same time since in the USA. With the WRIC being out of the country this year I was wondering (and hoping so) if there will be a National Championship this year and if so has there been any discussion of when/where?

It looks like CRASH-Bs will be venue for the National this time around:

Re: 2020 National Championship (USA)?
I noticed CRASH-Bs is still calling themselves the World Championships too despite the last two years in Alexandria and Long Beach and Paris this year. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go to Paris or not, so with Boston having the Nationals and a sort of de-facto World Championship - I will probably opt for that travel plan.

Re: 2020 National Championship (USA)?
The new venue in Boston earlier this year was good. At least I thought so. I'll do it again, especially since it's within an hour's drive for me.
I'm also hoping to go to Paris for the World Championship if I can figure out a frugal way to do it. I may never visit Paris at all if I don't. Must try to learn some French before then (Je suis désolé mais vous parlez trop vite pour moi.).

Rick,
How are you?
I may be in Paris next year, not 100% as it’s RR Jr 30 birthday on 6 February but he want to go skiing.
My club Aviron Cognac are hoping to put a relay team out.
I have been in France for 4 years

Re: 2020 National Championship (USA)?
Older and slower! Otherwise not too bad. I retired in August 2018 and have been enjoying a life of leisure, and by leisure I mean erging, running, cycling, and I've taken up OTW rowing a few days a week.
It would be great to catch up with you if RR Jr's schedule allows. And any hints about finding inexpensive lodging with access to an erg would be much appreciated. After the race I'm even planning to take a train to Prévessin to visit my daughter's in-laws.

Re: 2020 National Championship (USA)?
Hey Rick,
I know the feeling about getting not so fast!
I have taken up OTW stuff as well on the Charente in Cognac twice a week on doubles, quads and eights and a single canoé which is stable enough.
I do about 12k each time.
Got an Erg and BikeErg Chez moi so keep pretty fit.
Now ultra LWT 69kg!
Clocked 7:37 last week but tweeted my lower back so nursing that along.
Got a 15km river race for the club in an 8 in October.
Not sure about accommodation but try Air bnb, lots of that around plus it’s Feb.
Just make sure there isn’t a big rugby game on.
I have a bit of plantar fasciitis just now so don’t run but doing Erg morning, BikeErg afternoon then beer.
I keep in regular touch with Dennis Hastings.
Upwards and onwards slowly.....

Re: 2020 National Championship (USA)?
RR
I get down to the Charles River in Boston two or three times per week. Usually an Eight Tues and Thurs, and Single sculling on Sundays, but I've also been in an occasional double, quad, and 4+. Lots to learn, but I'm having a good time with it. Never could have found the time while I was still working. Paul Flack kept after me for years to join the program but I kept telling him that I didn't have time. Then within days of retiring he emailed me and told me to do it! So I did. Paul is now down in Annapolis, MD and has resumed canoeing with a sleek outriggered canoe on the Potomic River.
Ultra lwt at 69kg? Don't make Steve Green and I laugh! Steve is running a lot again. I catch up with him on facebook.
I've lost touch with Dennis Hastings and Mike Caviston. Give them my regards when you next correspond. I love both of those guys.
Have you heard anything about George Meredith? He was a monster competitor among us lwts.
I think that something around 7:37 was my best last season. Doubt that would get me anything in Paris, so I'll have to try to work harder and get faster before then. Get some arch supports for the plantar faciitis!

Re: 2020 National Championship (USA)?
Good stuff Rick.
Yep I enjoy the OTW just cruising along.
Give Paul Flack my regards.
Have lost touch with Mike, as has Dennis but will tell Dennis you are still alive and kicking.
Retired, that’s good too.
I still do a bit of work here as required and it pays my health insurance and not much of a drain on the pension.
Re: Paris, depending on age, in the 60-65 LWT there is a French guy hitting about 6:54 and if you are 70+ Alain Mangin is still pushing the times out.
Close to 7min will medal.
Back on the Erg and Bike Erg this morning for an hour or so sweaty and may go OTW tonight depending on what we are up to
Bonne Journée

Re: 2020 National Championship (USA)?
RR,
I'll be 72 next month, so mon ami Alain Mangin will be a favorite in my division. Lots of good 70+ guys around theses days and I'd suppose that it will take 7:15 or better to make the podium.
Meanwhile I'll be in my first OTW race two days from now. Our Military/Veterans Mixed 8 will be in the CRI Fall Classic on the Charles River. Not the same course as the Head of the Charles, but using about the last mile of it plus 2 more miles upriver. With our best rowers unable to attend for various reasons I've been tentatively assigned the stroke seat. I'm flattered, and hope to live up to it. If our usual stroke can get a red eye flight and arrive on time I'll move back to seat 6. Got to admit that I'm excited. Old dog learning new tricks.

Good stuff, stroke, ha, try that in a quad when you have to steer the thing as well, then over here I have to understand what the coach is shouting at me in a French, all makes for interesting sessions
Had my first race last October in an 8 in Cognac
3000 in the morning, 500 in the afternoon.
Bonne courage

I'm trying to book a room at the Royal Sonesta for the CRASH-Bs based on the hotel link here: http://www.crash-b.org/regatta/travel/.
But the Group Code seems to be incorrect. Has anyone else had this problem? Solved it?

To answer the question above, sadly my Dad George Meredith had to stop rowing many years ago. Maybe 2010.
This was due to Alzheimer’s:-(
Then sadly just before Xmas he passed away aged 72.
Many of you will know that he held the British Record for v50 lwt at every distance! 2000m right up to marathon! Over the years the records have gradually gone but he still holds the 5000m record.
Sad time but I wanted to let the indoor rowing community know
