To get a boat you
1. Need a team
2. Need five folks rowing for you
3. Need three of those folks to be HWT
4. Need one of them to be LWT
5. Need one lady [You'll notice that having a LWT lady is the best combo.]

You should also contact Joe Keating either on here on or FaceBorg to let him know your contact details.

Your team now exists (not to be confused with a southern fried chicken chain).

Pardon the clarifications. Four team members may be HWT if one is a lady. There's no requirement for HWT rowers in a boat. That is, a boat consisting entirely of LWTs qualifies. If the lady on the team is a lightweight, a lightweight gentleman is also needed.

We've had earlier discussions about this both here and on facebook. It's a matter concerning gender equality that there has to be a LWT, usually a gentleman, in each boat but there is no such stipulation for LWT ladies.

Well done BW Rowing for taking the top spot on the October leaderboard. Sub7 with thirteen teams had just one more than Fitness Matters. Well done!

Sub7 has the challenge for December, Isenhurst Rowers for January and The Diamonds for February.



Taking my post from yesterday a step further, a valid boat could consist entirely of LWT ladies. At first sight this appears to offend any notion of gender balance. However, the reality is that a highly ranked boat will have three HWT gents, one LWT gent and one HWT lady. Last month's leaderboard reveals that the top fourteen boats conformed to this pattern. In fifteenth place, Red Line Rowers had two LWT gents but still had a HWT lady in their boat.

Yes, it's a clever system that has stood the test of time. That doesn't stop me being in sympathy with LWT ladies who will very rarely feature in a top boat. I doubt that a podium boat has ever contained a LWT lady.

No, I'm not going to check all 180 editions of the challenge but if someone else is interested ...

After a series of 2nds and 3rds involving Joan van Blom over 2006/7, there was finally a lightweight female (nulee of MAD I) in the top boat in March 2007.

And with that I shall stop wasting forum space with pointless research...

I've had a look in the reverse direction and found that Kelly was the last LWT lady to be in a top boat. That was in this year's Carole McNally Memorial, admittedly with a much lower participation than the regular monthly challenge.

Kelly, Joan and Christine have all competed at the highest level. Even so, I wonder whether they could make the top boat in the current editions of the CTC.

I did the CTC November challenge in 8.12.0 so I am a reasonable rower, was wondering If I can enter individually or if I need to be part of a team.

Perhaps somebody would like a 29HWT in there team if not.

You Joe you can enter as an independent for the CTC (just nominate Independent in the teams part) but the Flyers are the place to be if you looking for a team - low pressure but normally floats 4/5 boats in the CTC and has a good presence with the Concept 2 challenges as well. No FB activity really - just the thread here. Members from all over the world. You would be most welcome.
