I saw him close up he didn't look as heavy as 93 but it is very hard to tell and if anyone should know it is James Cracknell.

Over on the "training" thread, CharleCarrol posted a link to Wiggins' effort. Here it is again; https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/ ... tokyo-2020

It looks to me like he got flustered with the false start mistake and just decided to at least finish. He casually got up and walked away, not spent at all. I'm sure he's done better when not in front of all the cameras. Still, not bad for a "beginner".

Yeah given his splits I assumed he realised he wasn't going to hit his target after his false start so took his foot off the gas. Of course this leaves us with little idea whether he could hit the low 6s, I guess we'll have to wait another year to find out.

I am no expert prognosticator but based on the video I watched 6:15 at best given how terrible his splits were and it was barely a false start reaction as he did not completely stop, also there is a lot more fat than muscle on his frame compared to the elite sub 6 men.

Tweeted goal was 6.02. Will be back next year.

All half stop even, will cause delay, plus a extra push, for which you will pay.
Have not seen pics, so can,t comment on his state of fitness.

Here you go HJS watch the video https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/ ... tokyo-2020 it will give you a good idea of yesterday’s slow down and his fat to muscle mass, looks like a skinny fat dude to me. I have to say I do not get the hype the UK has better and younger rowers than him, maybe he needs his old Skye team doctor to get him to the next level.

Has een belly.... Strange.

He finished paddling, not even out of breath. He stopped for one stroke at the start. Looked like that did him in. Simply lacked experience, race was a failier.
Do think his 6.02 comes from his training, could have lots faster, and can improve a lot, mostly strenghtwise.

The hype? Blame the papers

Ergo and otw work are not very related anyway. Graham tried but never made, otw technique is number one, a big motor is nice, but if you deliver that power otw.....

Congratulations Bradley Wiggins.
There is nothing quite like a Celebrity to take Indoor Rowing from comparative anonimity to national prominence. On the BBC Sport website two days running (so far), and full length features in National Sunday papers.Well done Bradley Wiggins.

I had to leave before the Open Hwt event to get back to Scotland without any thought to his competing. To me he was another performer with the expectations and anxieties of being in his first ever Indoor Rowing race ...... and the inevitable disappointments that result. (I suspect like me at the end of my first race he left immediately afterwards because he was personally gutted with his "poor" performance.)

The delight shown in his "comparative" failure is typical of the British: we just love the people we set up as heroes to subsequently fall; and allow us the personal satisfaction of making snide remarks about them.

Great --- So I can boast a similarity with the Great Bradley Wiggins: both of us did "poor" times at the British Rowing Indoor Championships 2017!

Keep on racing Bradley

6.02 is very respecable, looking at the way the finished and his current "look" sub 6 next year is very well possible.

Think nobody, except clueless idiots, expect him to become an olympic rower, does he even train in a boat?

Having witnessed many people scarpering at bike races when they've not gone well, I actually think it shows more class to stick around just as you would if you've gone well or just as you always would've, and chew the fat. When all is said, there's always another competition around the corner should you want the opportunity to redeem yourself anyway....

I think it is great for rowing and it is always interesting seeing how a great athlete transfers to another sport. Hamish Bond has been mentioned in this thread already and I am watching Andrew Tansley going from Pro cycling to triathalon with great interest.

The pictures of Bradley ceratinly show he has bulked up a bit but as several have said it doesnt look like it is all muscle. He has a long way to go yet and if he enjoys being competitive then it is great for him to have new motivations.
