converting times

Post by The_Giant0 » February 2nd, 2014, 6:13 pm

I am curious to see what people think of converting times between sports. Lets say we have a 6ft ltwt 155-160. What would a 20' 6k convert to if they were equivalently good at running? This could be 10k or 5k. Similarly, what would a 6.15 convert to for a mile. I used that weight for ltwt because it is not too far off a proper running weight.

One thing to keep in mind is that rowers are handicapped in distance running because their upper bodies are needlessly over-developed...

All in all, any comparison would be apples to oranges...

anecdotally (not scientifically)... I think when I ran a 15:20 5k on the roads I could have done a 20' 6k on the erg... For a while I tried rowing and running training together... (it really felt terrible. I stopped rowing. After I quit running competition I took up rowing again. Originally, I was a rower before taking up running.)

Impossible, rowers are often very mediocer runners, certainly the tall heavyweights are simply poor.

Good runners are often very light, way below the 75 kg, a lightweightrower is often a giant as a runner.

Sports is very specific, for both sports you simply need different specific talents.

I know a few 6.10/15 ergers, in the high 80 kg who run 37/38 min on the 10k
