I hadn't erged in so long the batteries were dead and dribbling into the PM2. But two new AAs and a Q-tip later I was on my way.
18,000 meters = 86:31.7 (2:24.2)
3rd 6k = 28:11.8 (2:21.0) 2nd 6k = 28:55.9 (2:24.7) 1st 6k = 29:24.1 (2:27.0)
Holiday Challenge 2010
If there is a will there is a way
I have had no problems doing well over 200k for the Holiday Challenge for the past 5 years. This year I confidently knew I could do 300k (10k daily) and keep up other activities. Then one day before the challenge was to start, my Model E which I should have done a repair on.. slid to the floor in the middle and formed a lazy V 30 second before the end of an online row. I am waiting for the replacement front end to arrive but it will be more than a week due to the holiday. Off to the gym this morning to get some meters. This afternoon I found I could row arms only with a wooden stool behind the front end of the erg. Put some weights on the front end of the erg so it doesn't jump off the floor and rowed away. Now I was to be working on lowering the stroke rate and increasing the use of the lower body. None of those things are in play but I get to still row online (I'm a RowPro addict) and I can row at least part of the rows I've got scheduled online. So I am happy I've found a way to continue to row online until the new front end arrives. I hope others check their manufacture date of their Model E or D and do the repair if it is called for and not do as I did and think everything was ok. One can check the serial number and then check online to see if it needs to be reinforced. I did get over 10k with rowing in today with the almost 4k arms only sitting on my stool. I thought this is how some adaptive rowing is done. If there is a will there is a way.
