The latest prototype is the next iteration after the one we had at the Head of the Charles. It has a cleaner look and is much more forgiving of less-than-perfect rowing styles. We've brought it to some coaches conferences and one of them (there are three in existence) has been in Princeton being used by the US team. Additionally we've had one in the Boston area making the rounds to a number of selected boathouses. Feedback has been positive but it's still very much a work in progress. Hope to see you at CRASH-B. I'm aware of at least 9 going from this area:

Nicholas McCutcheon 17 Long Beach Junior Crew
Jack Nunn 30 Rowbics and Long Beach Rowing Association
Ron Harvey 39 (Adapted) Arms only - CARP and Long Beach
Mary Perrot 53 ltwt. - Long Beach Rowing Association (LBRA)
Steve Krum 55 Spectrum - Los Angeles
Me, JVB 57 ltwt. (LBRA)
Jill Ammirato 61 Long Beach (LBRA)
John Van Blom 62 Long Beach (LBRA)
Robert Spenger 85 Long Beach - Big Pine (not exactly this area, but we try to claim him :) )

Thanks Joan. The claim is legitimate. I have maintained an associate LBRA membership (or whatever it is called) ever since I moved.

Where will most of the SoCal contingent be staying? I tried the Sonesta first, since the meetings will be there, but the special rate rooms were all sold out and the regular rate was sky-high (in my opinion). When I tried the Marlowe, they were sold out as well, but the regular rate was not quite as stratospheric as the Sonesta, so I booked at the Marlowe.

Regards,

Bob

We're staying at the Sonesta, Bob. Since the Marlowe is right across the street, it doesn't seem to matter which hotel of those two. I haven't talked to the other southern Californians about where they are staying. John and I aren't crazy about the location of the hotels, compared to other places to stay for touring Boston, but our main reason for going to Boston in frozen February (besides the race) is to be among our erging friends. I think the selected hotels are the best choice for that. :)

I just signed up - almost didn't - but I'd arranged to get the weekend off with my residency. Plus I'd already booked a flight to Boston (have friends and family there... No one who ergs though.) It will be my first time.
We'll see how it goes...

P.S. The sheep are excited. :) So if you see someone carrying around a bag with a stuffed sheep or two poking out - that's me. ;)

During your taper in order to get your competitive juices going you may want to study the competitors from last years C.R.A.S.H.-B's! Good luck to all. Photos at CATCHmeRow.com

How are ergs assigned? I ended up next to my team mate who signed up well after me. Also, interesting that Stephansen isn't seeded first in my race!

Paul, rowers are grouped by projected time (which you provided at registration). The "first row" (up front and center, getting videotaped) of a heat are the best projected times for that heat. I'm pretty sure erg assignments within a group/row are random. Erg 1 isn't necessarily the top rower.

See you all tomorrow afternoon, and good luck!

Actually, past practice has been to put the top seeds in the middle, with top rower typically on erg 9. #2 I think gets erg 8, #3 erg 10, etc.
