Hi, I'm new and just want to join in somewhere

What can I say.
I'm 49 and have no strong fitness background - used to do a little gym work for fun, but for various reasons that dropped off.
However I am taking part in a fun competition at work in 2 weeks and 5 days (not counting you understand!) when I will be competing in the "Female Over 40s Unfit Category" which sees me exerting myself greatly over 500 metres.
I did this last year and achieved a time of 2:05.5 - which I was chuffed to bits over as I'd thought I would be around 2:15. And even more chuffed to have beaten all the under 40 females over 500 metres.
This year I've actually moved from HW to LW - which I guess could affect my time, at 5'2.5" I'm not exactly long legged - but have also put in a couple of weeks worth of work - which hopefully will compensate for other shortcomings.
Aim. To beat the under 40s!
One of my colleagues spotted yesterday that there is a fault in my rowing style - I'm going to far forward on the slider, and therefore not pushing with my legs as I should - I knew I wasn't pushing with my legs, but hadn't realised why not. I tried really hard to adjust my style, but just ended up all over the place. Wish I'd known an awful lot sooner.
This is not going to be remedied in time for the competition.
After 24th September, I'll be up for some new challenge, particularly as I train alone (at a gym, but with no training partner) - hence I've joined this Forum and the Concept UK Forum one in the hope of some encouragement and advice and maybe finding one or two new challenges and aims along the way.
If you've got this far ..... thanks for reading.
