Resolutions in a Row

Lori had a great idea--post our resolutions. I agree. I do much better when I put them in writing--a commitment to myself. I still need to think about it. I still have 39 hours
My HC goal was to maintain my weight loss through January 1 and then work to lose more by spring break.

Well, I definitely gained and indulged and splurged for the last 4 weeks. I loaned my scale to a friend flying back home to India to weigh his bags. He gave the scale to another friend to return to me. He hasn't returned it yet. That is good and bad. Although ignorance is bliss, I think I'll be in shock over how much I did gain eating cookies, fudge, more cookies, cookie dough, sugar coated nuts, cookies....
BUT January 1st is a new day and a new year! (note I still have cookies to finish...)
I went back to the posts from last year. Wow. I need to think about what worked and why. I will post my reflections on last year but I am going to have to digest it a bit first.

Good idea to put in writing what our goals are, Susan. Even though I lost over 30 pounds this year, I didn't reach the goal I had planned. I will try to get to my Jan 1st goal by my birthday in February and then try to lose an additional 20 pounds after that by Jan 1, 2009.
My rowing goals for this season are to get three more PBs (the three shortest ranking rows) get sub 2 minutes on a 500, get 3 million meters this season, and possibly do my first full marathon in April. Beyond April, I'm not sure what my rowing goals will be. I guess it will depend on what I get accomplilshed this season.

Great idea Lori and Susan. thanks! I don't usually make resolutions, but this year I have some in mind. With only 1 year of rowing under my belt, I would like in this second year to improve my PB's in the 1K, 2K and 5K. My current times got me on the board anyway. I would also like to work toward a Half Marathon. First step is to row 10K nonstop. I also want to row 1 Million meters this year. I'm on my way with over 550,000 to date. I row for my health and to build bone density. I'm (58) a retired Airline Captain and I figure my job now is to be and stay as fit as I can. Another goal is to get off the few prescription medications I'm on. I already jettisoned one and am reading up on herbal medicine (teas and infusions) and plan to become more knowledgeable and in control of my own health issues. I gave up sugar 2 weeks ago. So, that will be plenty to keep me busy for 2008!! Now I've said it--I'll DO it. Thanks!!!

Its time for me to get back into that pair of 505 Levis that I looked so good in when I was rowing a couple of years ago. Getting my quads strong again means also getting that long-legs look which is very 'in' right now. It took 5 months for me to lose the pounds last time.
Getting back to lightweight would be super. At least long enough to get lw times into the rankings. Its a kick to be able to start over in the rankings in the lw categories, because by that time you are in good shape. The pinnacle would be that lw marathon! Not many lw great-grannies out there. All I have to do is lose 20 pounds.
Any other heavyweights out there want to try for a lw marathon goal? Any age group is fine.

Well, last year was pretty successful for me. I started out saying that I would erg 4 times/wk during January, but I managed to do it for most of the year. I did end up taking a few days off here and there, but I'm pleased with how I kept erging regularly. My calendar year total was over 1 million and more than twice as much as 2006.
For the 2008 season, my goal is to average 3,000m/day. I was doing it until mid-Nov when I just had to take a few "mental health" days off. I added a few more off days around Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I have a little bit of ground to make up. Should be able to take care of that during JVC.
I got into lightweight territory for most of the summer and fall. This morning the scale bounced up a pound and a half and put me back into HWT, but I know I can get back where I should be. Just a little holiday blip.
So my goal is basically to stay on track since I did so well last year.

Like Schenley, what I did last year worked well for me from a fitness perspective--I rowed about 1.5 million meters last year while improving time and endurance. What I didn't do was get to LW status and to get there, I'm going to have to resolve to eat better and change up my workouts. I've lost over 50 pounds during the past two years but I'd like to be committed to losing the rest and maintaining it. To get to LW, I have around 30 pounds to lose (don't know for sure as I'm not getting on a scale until Sunday at the gym, however based on how tight my pants feel, seems like 30 is a conservative estimate). I'm with Grams on getting to row as a LW, although I'm not sure that I'm as ambitious as she is for a marathon...I did several 1/2 marathons this year, so maybe that can be my 2009 resolution.
Last year, I rowed nearly 4,000 meters per day...this year, I'm going to shoot for 5,000 a day, but would be happy to be as consistent as I was last year.

Great idea to commit to our resolutions in writting. I would really like to row 4 - 6 times a week, get my first million logged, and do some ranked rowing (30 and 60 minutes primarily). This should help my weight loss efforts and help me lose the last 20 lbs. I will have to check to see if that gets me into the lw category or not. Looking forward to using the January Challenge to get me going on the right step.

First Million

Hi Dawn, I'm working toward my first million meters also. I'm at 550,000 now. Keep me posted on how you are doing. I also try to row 4-6X week--until cycling season anyway. It's good to have goals!! Good luck!! denise

Greetings all and Happy New Year.
My contribution to the resolution hopes and dreams is to reach the million meter goal line and also to drop 40 lbs this year. I'm also going to promise myself a trip to an on-water rowing camp once that 40 lb has been rowed off my frame.
